"You won't have to vote any more my beautiful Christians. I love my Christians!"

Hey Christians? MAGA's?
What EXACTLY does he mean with this?
Because I'm a real American and see a man promising a dictatorship. What do you see?

What he said is chilling, especially considering all the times he's expressed both admiration for dictators...and a clear wish that he could be one.

There was a time when I'd have been confident of the checks and balances in place that would prevent this from happening. Due to some fairly recent factors, I'm not so confident about that anymore.
Ynotisay · M
@Piper I agree about the loss of confidence. Institutions that were previously above reproach, because of things like honor and integrity, are being chipped away and politicized. A lot of judges are no longer working on behalf of the law and Constitution. They're working for an extremist movement.
Piper · 61-69, F
@Ynotisay Just yes, to all you've said there.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
Scary stuff. The Cult eats it up.
Ynotisay · M
@windinhishair The cult does. I'm not sure Americans do though. This one is going to have some legs.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@Ynotisay He is pretty clear that the right to vote will be extinguished during a second term. This will get plenty of play over the next few months.
Ynotisay · M
@windinhishair I agree. I think it has to.
Corporalcolleague · 61-69, M
I think he means that they have to vote this November for him, but after that he can't serve another term so he doesn't care if they ever vote again, as long as they cast a vote this time. What a tool....you don't see it MAGA folks? You truly don't see it??
ArishMell · 70-79, M
I wonder how that was received by non-Christians, whether of another faith or simply not religious, among the Republican Party supporters.

He might simply have been playing along to his audience on the day of course, as probably anyone in his position would; but it can't have impressed every Party member or supporter.

Nor does it seem to square with the Constitution which if I understand correctly, guarantees religious freedom and separation of Church and State.

(Many of the original colonists were escaping countries that had become religiously extremely intolerant, or at least had too close ties between parliaments and prayer-books. The irony was that some of those settlers were hardly noted for religious liberty either: they were simply on the losing sides of the schisms in their home lands.)

.....

On which, I have to wonder at the breathtaking conflicts of interest held by the "Project 2025"' main author. A Mr. Gilman, if I recall correctly? (Similar anyway.)

Allegedly at least, I learnt today, Gilman supports both the Heritage Foundation whose web-site espouses some very un-libertarian social views and a political desire to control the US Government; and an organisation dedicated to upholding the US Constitution and personal liberty, presumably including religious freedom. Oh, and he's a long-time oil-industry director now involved with a rare-earth metals company: the first industry encouraging for its own sake HF's official climate-change denial, the latter exploiting moving from CO2-emitting hydrocarbon fuels to everything eventually being all-electric or electric/hydrogen.

(Rare-earth metals are vital for modern, high-efficiency alternators and motors, batteries and electronic components; and presently China is busily commandeering all it can of the world's resources of them and other significant minerals.)

With only two Parties to vote for the outcome might be rather interesting.....

Just remember, what Uncle Sam does in his own country is his business, for only Americans to decide. What counts in the rest of the world are his foreign policies and actions, and his country's standing with its many foes as well as friends. A lot of the friendly pairs of eyes are watching with due diplomacy but very nervously......

For a "stable genius" he sure is giving away those spoilers of the secret conspiracy..😷
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
Richard65 · M
I'm pretty sure there's enough robust checks and balances in place to prevent a US dictatorship. That's why he's so blasé about proclaiming it. He knows it can never happen.
Richard65 · M
@LordShadowfire just out of interest, what do you think would happen if he became dictator and abolished elections?
JSul3 · 70-79
@Richard65 His Cult have no problem with it.

Watch video of them in Iowa, who told Peter Kopel, they thought America needed a dictator and that Trump would fix everything, as he is doing Gods will.
zonavar68 · 56-60, M
@Richard65 Trump believes he can mandate any change to US laws, constitution, etc. via Executive Orders.

No, he means he will become the dictator
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Strictmichael75 He said it clear enough. "Only on the first day" enough time to clear the decks so he can never be removed and no one is left to oppose anything. But its only the one day. What could possibly go wrong??😷
RageAgainstTheMachine · 41-45, M
I see you have already posed this inquiry; my apologies for repeating the question. I was simply questioning the two tiered nature of the comment as opposed to replying my own observations.

@robingoodfellow I've been comparing his speeches with talking points from Project 2025, and I'm definitely leaning toward your second explanation.
walabby · M
What a complete joke American politics currently is!
Ynotisay · M
@walabby I'm not sure if it's all of America politics. It's a faction of American politics.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
Totally not Trump promising to take away my freedom permanently.
kittee · 22-25
@LordShadowfire yes vance has changed hi sname 3 times very suspicious,
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@kittee And he currently makes it sound like he is very, very much in favor of implementing Project 2025.

To be honest, I think he and the Heritage Foundation are planning on Trump dying of natural causes in office, if you take my meaning.
kittee · 22-25
@LordShadowfire he might fall out of a window whilst visting his friend putin in russia
