what was a bigger deal - building a backyard clubhouse or a wooden go cart that had to be pushed with a broom handle?

Looks like I was one of the fortunate ones. I was able to have both. The clubhouse will always hold a spot in my memory. So many adventures, so many happenings, and built with some of my best friends. The go-kart on the other hand, which ended up being several over the years, didn't have the same appeal to me as a clubhouse. Just my thoughts. 🧒🏻

This took me back a lot of years. I remember my Grandad and me building a go cart together, not far away there was a couple of good size hills. I had hours of fun on that.

I chose This_____________. Because I had a German immigrant father that survived World War Two as a child on his own in Eastern Germany. We were not allowed to waist any part of wood that could be used for something useful in the future. We had to sneak off into the woods and use natural growing trees and branches.

@WillaKissing Ah, don't be sad it just made life more explorative, and we may have raided scrap piles from construction sites that supplemented the secret forest forts!
@WillaKissing

I like the way you put that... you chose to honor/respect your father and others who survived the hell of WW2 by understanding why he thought the way he did. Of course, as an adventurous innovative kid you made the best of your situation.

@rinkydinkydoink Absolutely! I am actually better off for it too.
I remember building a tree house. I got the floor finished and stood there looking in triumph at what I had accomplished so far.

And the whole thing collapsed and dumped me in the creek.
@robingoodfellow

This is quite the smile-producing anecdote! Bottom line - thank goodness you had the foresight to build it over a creek (relatively soft landing and all)!
