You hit my button on this. Tax filings fit within my definition of "cruel and unusual" punishment inflicted on the people by the government.

I also do the taxes for a small partnership and a typical year has me filing 40 tax documents. The instructions for some documents are 100 plus pages long and practically every paragraph references another set of instructions.

Some instructions are so convoluted that even the IRS doesn't know what it says.

Do illegals have to pay taxes and file a report on all the free benefits they're getting (shelter, food, medical care, dental care, etc) or is this just something inflicted on taxpaying, legal residents? Seems to me that all that stuff is income.

I use an accountant. So worth it

They want you to do the work for them, and give them half of your hard earned cash. 😩

I do mine online and it takes about 10 minutes.

Sorry to hear that. Been doing mine online for over a dozen years and it seems a lot easier. What was so painful about it? The process, or the 1040 form itself?

At first it was overwhelming, but then it becomes easy. Just keep well organised records of everything and record them as soon after the fact as possible.
