Why is social democracy and democratic socialism confused called communism by far right wingers?

Do they really think anyone would want an actual communist state? I find communism too extreme and my ideology aligns with social democracy ( which is a form of more compassionate capitalism by the way) and democratic socialism is a far cry from communism. No one in their right mind wants another Stalinist Russia or maoist China. People should first know what the hell they are talking about before labeling everything liberal or left wing communism. To be honest I even saw on here someone said I piss on commies they are not people. 🫤and even thought a dictator general who overthrew a socialist government did the world a favor by killing and making dissenters disappear. Wow so much hatred to those who disagree with him. I’m scared to ask what this person is like in real life. To dehumanize others to say they are not people too. The internet is ugly.

The DSA Co-Chair affirmed she wants to shift most large corporations to public ownership.
Fukfacewillie · 56-60, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow I didn’t express an opinion about whether it was true. I said it’s a reasonable claim. As for no police, prisons, and open borders, lol, they will get eaten alive.
@Fukfacewillie Now you are playing games.

For something to be a reasonable claim it by definition needs to be based on truth.

Unless you think any random opinion is equally valid.
Fukfacewillie · 56-60, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow I’m writing in good faith. A claim can be reasonable but false.

Where has socialism worked? Margaret Thacher said it best " socialism works well... Until you run out of other people's money".
TheHammer · M
@nudistsueaz
And you think capitalism is working?😊

Btw she could have said exactly the same thing about capitalism US style.😊
Bumbles · 56-60, M
Good luck with this brand of “socialism.” Calling it communism gives it too much credit as a coherent program. This nonsense seems more like college freshman horseshit:

Shannon Bream asked DSA Co-Chair Romer whether DSA supports policies including eliminating the Senate, replacing the president and Supreme Court “as we now know them,” abolishing borders, giving amnesty to anyone in the United States illegally, defunding the Pentagon, abolishing prisons and public ownership of most large corporations.

Romer agreed that each of those policies is part of the DSA platform, noting that abolishing borders and prisons would be part of a longer-term plan.

As other responders have noted, this is typical in today's poltical environment. It's a very ugly time to be in politics, people are angry and divided.

I can appreciate the nuance between social democracy and communism. They are not the same thing.

Can you agree that this attitude is exhibited by extremists on both sides?

For example, only ignoramuses believe Trump and his supporters are Facists or White supremacists.

Do you see how both sides engage in hyperbole?
midnightmagic · 31-35, F
@SumKindaMunster perhaps hyperbole. I think trump is a right wing populist. But I find his rhetoric and actions alarming. I tended to think people who voted for trump felt disenfranchised by the political system and wanted a new kind of leadership. Yes extremists tend to fall into dehumanizing their social and political others. Well I do happen to know one or two republican trump supporters so I think it was more for economic reasons and so on.
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
@midnightmagic Not disenfranchised at all. Just tired of the invasion and our tax dollars being stolen.
They're ideologically identical and we're all burning because you hated communism like good little Murkans.

We have an excellent experiment happening in real time. New York has a socialist democrat as it's mayor. So we'll see how wonderful New York becomes after this experiment. As a start, he's opening city owned grocery stores. His comments: “A trip to the grocery store shouldn’t spell dread for New Yorkers,” Mamdani said Monday, “guaranteeing” shoppers a 30% discount on “the most common and most critical groceries.”

So 30% discount versus normal retail price. Will that make life better? Here is what I think will happen: The city stores will compete with privatly owned business. If a store can't make a profit, they close. Let's see what happens overall.

@NerdyPotato "A city-run grocery store in Kansas City that was propped up by more than $18 million taxpayer dollars has closed.

Sun Fresh Market opened in 2018 in the city-owned Linwood Shopping Center. Part of a Community Improvement District, the shopping center received a multi-million-dollar renovation budget about a decade ago as part of the city’s sprawling revitalization efforts on the east side.

But after months of bare shelves, severe crime problems that Kansas City has spent additional money to curb, and what one reporter described as a “rancid odor” connected to improper drain maintenance, Sun Fresh has shut its doors.

“Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances beyond our control, we are no longer, at this time, able to serve the residents of this important community,” a sign on the front door of Sun Fresh said, local NPR affiliate KCUR reported. “It has always been our dream and passion to provide quality products and services in a safe, family environment. At this time, unfortunately, we are unable to do that.”

For years, the city was “happy to be a partner,” Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas said.

“But there’s always a limit to what we will invest as well.”

The failure of Sun Fresh in Kansas City raises doubts about the feasibility of New York City Mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani’s proposal to establish a $65 million network of city-funded grocery stores. Mamdani has been unclear whether the stores will be operated by the city, or if nonprofit partners similar to CBKC will run the stores.

Waving off concerns that New York’s food is expensive because of sales tax rates and high cost of labor, not because of grocery stores’ profit margins, which are famously low, Mamdani has lauded his taxpayer-funded plan as “political experimentation.”

Police frequently field reports of fighting, drug use and public sex near the Sun Fresh, according to the Kansas City Star. Two managers quit last year over “hazardous” working conditions.

The store’s assistant manager Adriana Rentie said at an August meeting with Lucas and Kansas City Police Department Chief Stacey Graves that on one occasion, a Kansas City police officer “declined to intervene with a SunFresh customer accused of theft because the officer was busy responding to another customer wielding a machete,” the Star reported.

@NerdyPotato You’re obviously not a business person. Do you know the margins typical in the grocery business? Maybe do some research LOL.

Government is painfully inefficient. These stores will cost taxpayers a fortune. And they’ll drive private business away. I predict this foolish move will create far more problems than it proposes to solve.

Time will tell. Remember this post.

Yep, will do!

@dragonfly46

Socialism and democracy are two different things.

Socialism is an economic model.. democracy is a system of governance. It says how we choose the government.

Socialism talks about how to distribute the goods under that system.

Today Some people use socialism as a way of governance with its own ideas.. and we can say that to a point the way we are using it today it might be. But it is not.

@Northwest what did I say? I mean I wish for peace in the Middle East but I don’t like Israel invading Palestine. But at this point if there could a treaty drawn up and Palestine and Israel would accept a two state solution. One thing Israel does do right however is having some lgbtqia protections and is the only country in the region to have it. Jordan, Lebanon and turkey ( well turkey is not in southwest Asia or North Africa) have lgbtqia+ decriminalized. And if far left wingers at least some support hamas oh boy. I’m center left.

Social Democracy is about regulations, welfare safety nets, environmentalism and universal healthcare. It also tries to make everything more equal. That's not socialism.
IsawDDevil · 36-40, M
@NerdyPotato No, never did I say business were suppose to be public or that people should control the means of production.
@IsawDDevil socialism or fascism? You can't say you're either! Let's laugh at the people on the fence. Because they're liars.
IsawDDevil · 36-40, M
@Roundandroundwego Social democracy is a centre-left political and economic ideology featuring regulated capitalism, a strong welfare state, and reduced economic inequality. As discussed on Reddit, users note a general consensus that it uses democratic means to balance free markets with public well-being.Core PrinciplesWelfare Programs: Funding universal healthcare, free education, and pensions through public taxes.Market Regulation: Allowing private property and businesses while setting strict rules to protect workers and consumers.Democratic Rule: Rejecting violent revolution in favor of peaceful, ballot-box political reform.Key GoalsSocial Justice: Ensuring fair pay, job safety, and equal human rights for all groups.Wealth Redistribution: Using progressive taxes to narrow the gap between rich and poor.Public Goods: Providing basic needs like housing and medical care outside of pure profit motives.
Basic lack of education for starters.
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow thet don't understand it's every adult's responsibility to be a good communist and "social democracy" is fascism lite.

They do it only to abuse and ridicule their opponents, to save the bother of discussing political matters sensibly and civilly.

It seems to happen from both sides.
BohoBabe · M
It's a propaganda strategy. Fascists define "Communism" as anything to their left. Plus a lot of them believe in the "Cultural Marxism" conspiracy theory, where everyone who isn't on board with them is actually part of the conspiracy to destroy the West and implement Marxism.
