Short staffing is alway a case of too cheap to fit the cost of staffing into the operational equation of operation.

The tougher times get, they more business looks at reducing costs by cuts, instead of improving service to attract what business there is. But the cuts rarely extend to the senior ranks, who produce nothing..😷

And there's often a cost involved

In my search for services, I found many businesses were booked up, so a booking had to be 6 weeks ahead.
It would bode well for the company to employ more people, as @whowasthatmaskedman stated, instead, they treat the public with contempt, saying, you just have to wait, or go elsewhere.
