Just wait until April when we have reciprocal tariffs. Canada has been sticking it to us for years. That is about to end.

How Canadians feel about Americans

@TexChik I don’t know who this guy is and what’s his source. But we had a negotiated agreement. If what he’s saying is true then these weren’t covered by USMCA. Reason is simple. We want to protect our local industries.

Eg Wisconsin alone can make enough dairy to supply entire Canada. If we allow that we won’t have a dairy industry. So yes, certain products are excluded from the agreement. After all a govt cant agree to something that’ll wipe out an entire industry.

Trump negotiated USMCA. It covers over 300 pages of goods coming from US into Canada without any tariff. Now he wants to tax them. This is about breaking a contract.
TexChik · F
@MrGrumpy He intends to have an equal footing with ALL our trade partners. In April, all tariffs levied on US goods will be mirrored by the US on our trade partners imposing them.
MrGrumpy · M
@TexChik Partially true. He announced tariff (which are now again on hold) on products that are covered by USMCA.

Honestly I don’t understand what he’s doing. One day it’s about fentanyl (there is no drug problem on northern border). Then he talks about high trade deficit. But really it’s a rounding error. If you exclude Canadian oil exports then Canada imports more from US than US does from Canada.

Word is he is serious about annexing Canada and this is a way to introduce economic turmoil. We fought together over decades, stayed by your side when you were attacked by terrorists, got your diplomats out of sticky situations in third country. If you have a problem with trading relationship, let’s discuss. But you don’t threaten and bully friends. He’s talking about kicking Canada out of five-eyes intelligence sharing alliance. It’s downright hostile

@MrGrumpy You elected a socialist who has allowed China to send its fentanyl through Canada to the US, while also getting billions from us on trade. That has to stop. The US does not need Canadian products, and the US is Canada's leading trade partner. With your new carbon tax hitting next month as well, things will be tight in Canada for a while until the trade deficit is resolved.

@TexChik We have world’s only strategic maple syrup reserve. Are you sure you don’t want a piece of that? Goes great with pancakes and Canadian bacon 😜
TexChik · F
@MrGrumpy And only 43 million Canadians. I was surprised by that.
MrGrumpy · M
@TexChik Yeah, sounds a bit cuckoo but true. That’s us Canadians. Adding sweetness in everyone’s lives 😀
TexChik · F
@MrGrumpy With all that snow and time on your hands, you'd think you guys would be busy populating! Geez!
MrGrumpy · M
@TexChik ikr? Especially when beaver is our national animal 😜

@TexChik You do realise that exports will fall as targeted countries reciprocate with tariffs of their own. Which will make it difficult to reduce any imbalance in trade . .
TexChik · F
@SunshineGirl you do realize that Canada makes uponly1.2 % of our exports, yet they stick us with billions in import taxes. Canada can't survive having to pat those same tariffs.

Libs can't stand that Trump is right and can’t be bought or bribed. You need only look at Trump’s first term to see that this will work.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@SunshineGirl You mean no country has had tariffs on imported American goods?
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@TexChik Well dare I say, Canada was not a terribly good market to target in order to redress the trade imbalance.

Trump signed the same trade agreement with Mecico and Canada that he is now decrying as creating "unfair" conditions 🤔 And the fact that he has issued exemptions from his own punitive tariffs on about half of all imports from Mexico and a third from Canada, suggests that he has been bought and bribed.
TexChik · F
@SunshineGirl Well I guess you will just have to complain to your congressman, won't you?
