how are you preparing for the recession?

spend less? save more?
Freeranger · M
I live in the country. I have a host of things I can do to amuse myself. My extended family and I live near to each other. We either raise what we need in a garden or a pen, or have neighbors who like to barter.
We're all perfectly fine with finding our own amusements. We'll have nights on the screened porch at one family's house, lobster & clams one night because we have a friend who's a lobstermen, we all have gardens for veggies.....We take care of our tribe.
Occasionally I'll hit a movie at a Cinema or whatever, I can hop a train which takes me in to the Boston Garden for a Celtics game, or a cab from the train during the season for our Red Sox....

The bottom line is that I can live on what's termed a "beer budget"......We live simply here in the country, but we are SO fekkin' wealthy in our relationships with one another. I find it very rare in today's society.

@Freeranger Wow. So you're in Mass. just curious where, as I have family in Plymouth and would like to interview for a position in your tribe.

spend less? save more?

Actually, spending more - getting less.

Preparation for recession is difficult.
While government is doing all it can to make it worse!

I guess my preparation is to do all I can to defeat every democrat running for office.
helenS · 36-40, F
@Budwick I believe the last really BIG recession in America came to a halt when the US became involved in WWII, and sold military equipment to the whole world (minus one country, of course).
Graylight · 51-55, F
Not only is there not a recession, but the latest job growth indicates much of the panic has been generated from media. No recession is even expected.

@ron122 Read a paper. Look out the window. Change the channel from FOX.

Really, try anything.

I only hope that, on both sides of the Atlantic, house prices become more realistic to give young families a better chance of owning a decent place. The contra to that will be higher interest rates to slow down inflation, and throttle the credit boom.
Fairydust · F
It was always on the cards, we’ll see the prices go out of control like never before.

All Planned.

@Ynotisay

I observe life differently to you, my journey and how I see things will be worlds apart, I see what they cover up, I see the lies, I see the truth being silenced.

I’ve always question everything.
Ynotisay · M
@Fairydust OK. Don't pat yourself on the back with the "I question" stuff. I question too. And I look to get to the truth. Not fill some need for conspiracy and enemies. "I did my own research" resulted in countless thousands of deaths from Covid. There's a reason for that. Have a good one, ok? You do what you want.

@Ynotisay 👍🏻

@YukikoAmagi That looks like it was taken over 10 years ago!
@Pfuzylogic yes lol no newer photo of Yui in the net

Gas has gone down almost a dollar.
I like these mixed signs!
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
What recession? Wall Street is doing fine.
Ynotisay · M
I watch my money regardless but I'm not so sure now that a recession will come to pass. Today's job report shows about 525,000 jobs added in July with unemployment dropping to 3.5 percent. Earnings are up too. With everything going on that's a confidence booster.

my husband isn't demanding payment up front for deductibles and copays. healthcare is important to his patients and he doesn't want them to go without. he gives his patients drug samples whenever he can but they're not as readily available anymore
MougyWolf · 36-40, M
I've always been just scraping by, really., and if worst comes to worst, I'll just eat humans, I ain't too worried.
So far inflation hasn't had much of an effect on me, but I am being much more selective in which companies I purchase stock in

I'm a land owner, not a money owner. I could grow my own potatoes if need be.
Confined · 56-60, M
Been in recession for a few months....even if Biden denies it. Yes spending a lot less.
StevetheSleeve · 31-35, M
That’s a good way of giving a recession a kick start.
Jungleman · M
it won't affect me, i'm paid good money.
I don't think any of us is ready

Trying to increase my side hustles, spending less, and not shooting myself in the head when I see my 401k statement. I'm forced to play the long game.
Zonuss · 41-45, M
Spending about the same, but saving more. 🙂
empanadas · 31-35, M
Yes but Im investing more in crypto, stocks and start ups. Going to wait until the housing market burst to get into real estate again. Big discounts now and hopefully more in the future. All while saving for a least six months worth of bills in case of an emergency.
