Trump Threatens to Halt Some Trade Unless the Fed Cuts Rates

Trump threatened on Friday to halt a broad swath of U.S. trade unless the Federal Reserve slashed interest rates, issuing a series of sweeping ultimatums that could prove costly to the economy if he were to carry it out.

The new Fed Chair is low IQ as well? He sure knows how to pick them. And pick "them" he did.

I don't see how this move could have an impact on improving affordability.

Contrary to the president’s calls for cuts, some Fed policymakers have signaled they are considering whether to raise rates, perhaps as soon as this month, after failing for more than five years to bring inflation down to the central bank’s 2 percent target.

But Trump insisted on Friday that the U.S. economy was “STRONG” and, as a result, could afford to reduce rates immediately. Such a move could actually worsen inflation, but Trump did not acknowledge the risk as he signaled he could interrupt global trade.

“LOWER THE RATE OR I’LL STOP TRADING WITH COUNTRIES WITH WHICH WE HAVE A DEFICIT, which the U.S. Supreme Court, in its ridiculous and very costly Tariff decision, strongly acknowledged ‘the President’ has an absolute right to do,” Trump said.

And another misinterpretation of the Court opinion.

I confess I am getting to the point where I see no future in keeping the US economy on life support. So let Trump cut the rates and send inflation spiralling , while hollowing out the last vestages of value in the pension funds, 401K and college savings funds. And I might add, sending gold and property prices through the roof. Thats where the country is heading anyway. You might as well get it over with..😷

@newjaninev2
Few people have noticed that recently the Netherlands and some other countries moved their gold out of US and sent it to London.

It was extensively covered in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, CNN, and the major US networks and that includes Fox News.

@Northwest and what do you make of it?
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@newjaninev2 And the Japanese are getting ready to dump more US treasuries after the US buying into Yen looks like a fizzer in saving the falling Yen..October is looking like a bumpy ride.😷

in both situations inflation rise

@Khenpal1 It is interesting to note that Japans economy has been walking tightrope for 30 years now, with careful government intervention to stop it falling into the abyss that America is soon to be swallowed by. But a side effect is the total collapse of the birth rate. As younger Japanese couples have simply decided not to have children. Maybe a portent of things to come in America..😷

Japanese bonds pays more today

@Khenpal1 Yes. And as a result, money is starting to trickle back to Japan from the US, slowing the flow of "Free money"from Japan for Wall st. Notice credit tightening up?😷

Restricting trade is an unorthodox way of reducing inflation . . . 🤦‍♀

Seems like sound fiscal policy, what could go wrong?
ArishMell · 70-79, M
Does he include trade with countries to which the USA exports goods or services, as well as importing from them?

Another step on the road to perdition...

@samueltyler2 He crossed the Rubicon, but he still believes he can shoot someone in broad daylight, on 5th Ave, and get away with it.
