@ViciDraco being against someone is almost as good as thiniking through complex policy alternatives and deciding what works best.
a WHOLE lot of nation operate under theory that it's better to be against your neighbor rather than have dialogue with them

@SusanInFlorida I believe there was a miscommunication. I vote against republicans because I believe the party platform is harmful to social liberty, long term economic stability, and keeps the world in a worse state.
I can have dialogue with individuals. I often do. I just can't support the politicians. I'm also not a democrat because I think they are guilty of the same things, just to lesser extents. I'm very far left. Democrats are still way to the right of me. Especially economically.

There's a quote from Churchill..
The best argument against democracy is 5 minutes spent with the average voter..

@Convivial And the only argument in favour of Democracy is that it works better over all than any other system we have found so far..😷
It doesn't matter who's the more intelligent, it matters who there's more of.
@Pambie Maybe if that was a requirement in who stands for office you wouldn't need one for voters.
Pambie · 26-30, F
@Mindfulness Bernie Sanders would be the U.S. president then. I could live with that. ☺
@Pambie Anyone would be better than the incumbent.

People with a higher IQ can work out that helping someone improve themselves and their life adds more value to them for you and in the end costs you less than having to defend and protect yourself from them..😷

The joys of democracy.
Everyone has a say no matter how stupid, unqualified or biased they are.

@AdmiralPrune That's the biggest problem with it.

One look at the polling data shows that trump supporters are promarily older, low educated white males that live outstate.
Rolexeo · 31-35, M
That doesn't prove a whole lot. Most conservatives are pretty socially liberal and while they tend more towards religion plenty aren't, a lot of people on the left are religious as well. Authoritarians are consistently shown to score lower on IQ tests, they can fall on either side of the political spectrum.
@whowasthatmaskedman We try not to say that outloud.

@badminton In absolute fairness, I must state clearly that my comment does NOT apply to all Americans. There are some intelligent, informed, enlightened Americans out there, many of whom have travelled and benefitted from walking a mile in the shoes of others.
I am however referencing the perception of non Americans everywhere, and their observations about other Americans as seen through the Trump lens..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman Benefitted from walking a mile? Americans don't like to walk, so don't you actually mean "benefitted from driving a mile"?

If we apply that question to British politics we'd need establish if with capital or lower-case initial letters, because there are the Liberal-Democrat Party and the Conservative Party.
Whether the members and supporters of any one party are cleverer than any other.. I think this largely meaningless. There are bright and less bright, well-educated and poorly-educated, people in all walks of political life.
Extreme groups, of both Right and Left, tend to attract people who may or may not be particularly intelligent but have poor analytical and critical skills.

I have often thought that it must take some kind of super intellect to come up with and defend some of the idiot ideas that liberals fall in love with.
Sometimes if you back out of all the complex, intricate rabbit hole thought process and reduce a question to its simplest most basic form, you find the real solution does not require an advanced degree.
Simple isn't always stupid and complex isn't always smart or necessary.
