@missyann You seem not to have noticed I named you in the long comment. Your 99.9 percent statistic is pure fiction as unreported rape is far too common for anyone to come up with such a statistic. Opposition to the death penalty comes from a feeling that the state does not have the right to decide who will live or die regardless of their conduct. In seeking to interfere with a private matter between a woman and her doctor, the anti-abortionists seem to want a police state where the government has tyranny over its citizens due to the voices of a minority of people. A democracy allows for the governments of a society to serve the people and not to rule over them. Allowing women to make their own moral decisions is not the same thing as sentencing the unborn to death as a woman has the option to continue her pregnancy. It's a complex moral decision which should be left up to the individual.

Very interesting responses. The question has nothing to do with taxpayer funding, but rather government restrictions. The comment that abortion is illegal on a federal level is blatantly false. The Dobbs decision allowed states to set their own laws and caused many women to flee their own states to escape the authorities. Many medical providers fled the states with the abortion bans. The anti-abortionists assume their morals are superior to their opponents and want the government to ban a common medical procedure they consider murder. Making blatantly false statements such as 'No women have died because they couldn't get abortions' (Kristan Hawkins of Students For Life) and fabricating statistics about how many women are pregnant as the result of rape (Missyann on Similar Worlds) leads one to doubt their credibility. Unreported rape is common and tragic and is not included in these presumed statistics. President Jimmy Carter was opposed to taxpayer funded abortions out of regard for people who are morally opposed to the procedure, but thought women should have a choice. Women are capable of making their own moral decisions without the threat of imprisonment.

I’m sure it’s just pure coincidence that PP donate money to democrats candidates..
with tax payer funds..
It’s the only real reason republicans care about the issue..
ironically.. also why dems are hot for the issue.. funding $$
Now the states gotta find money for free baby killing.. boo hoo

The taxpayers don't want to pay for your one night stands. Use a condom.
