The 2nd was established so that local militia's, a precursor to the National Guard, could be armed as the men supplied their own weapons. The Continental Army and the local Militia's were mostly what made up the army during the American Revolution. If anything, this period right now is going to establish more common sense gun control laws. Similar to Reagan passing gun control after Black Panthers showed up to an event he was at fully armed.
If people start using guns then the authoritarian regime could cement its place by enacting the Sedition Act and we would literally become a militarized state with a demented idiot as dictator.

It's the same old "rights for me, but not for thee" hypocrisy that dominates American politics. Gun rights only matter if the cause you're supporting is, say, overturning an election. Opposing the presence of a violent terror squad in your city means you need to shut up, stay home, and lay down your arms.
