Someone has to design, build, operate and maintain the robots, also the salesmen that sell them.to different companies and the people required to manufacture the raw materials to make them. There might be a net gain of jobs in the long run

That's not how this process works. Starting with the salesmen concept. Tesla's long-term goal has been to create a highly automated, "lights out" factory. Tesla's Optimus Humanoid Robot will start out working alongside humans until it replaces them in a lights out factory.

@fanuc2013 There might be a net gain, but if there is it will be wholly unintended and independent of the strategies of Bezos and Musk. They are investing in automation to reduce wage bills and oversight by government and other authorities responsible for worker welfare. If automation actually resulted in more pesky humans on the books, they would look a bit silly.

plumbers in my area of NY make around 200k a year easy, more if they want to

easy: with extensive overtime. But leave to MAGA to redefine as back breaking, 60-70 hours per week as easy.

more if they want to
Yes, all of 5 of them, who have a captive audience, and the latter lives uptown and are working 80 hours per week.

in my area of NY

They don't live uptown and you don't.

This is why I disagree with the argument that raising the minimum wage or raising taxes on the rich will drive them to fire employees. The truth is that the rich will always cut costs in order to make profit, no matter how high the minimum wage or the taxes are. They'll outsource, they'll hire undocumented immigrants, they'll use AI, whatever it takes to makes just a few more millions.
ViciDraco · 41-45, M
@BohoBabe That's why I favor maximum wages and wealth taxes. If the potential money earn is less than infinite it starts to become wiser to build for robustness and longevity of earnings than it does maximizing what you can get in a short period

Who engineers, builds, sells, purchases and operates the robots?
CougarLisa · 36-40, F
@fanuc2013 BINGO... I'm invested in robotics company that has over 1000 employees! In the grand scheme of things that's not a big number but it's just one company.

Most people in here are clueless about how economies work, never mind the labor market... just clueless!

When the jobs have disappeared and Amazon's and Tesla's consumer bases have shrunk proportionately, what are all these robots going to do? Dangerous short-term thinking from men who have been allowed way too much free rein.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@SunshineGirl We are going to reprogram the robots to build playpens for demonocrats which hopefully keep the demonocrats from harming themselves

…remind me again how billionaires are job creators?

No one told Trump this is what's happening, probably because he won't get it.
Musicman · 61-69, M
He created 600,000 jobs for robots. He is rocking it! 🙂
