It's not a new thing at all. It's called punching down.

FoxyGoddess · 51-55, F
I wish people would realize the fact that you pay taxes doesn't mean you get to dictate how it is used or entitle you to any sort of control, outside of voting.

If you give someone money, your control over how that money is spent no longer exists. It is no longer yours.

That works for SNAP, welfare, and other social services once you pay your taxes. Once your tax money goes into the kitty, you no longer get to say what or how it is used. The only way to do that is through voting, which is why it is nearly impossible to qualify for any social progtam because people want to dictate who really needs it, as if they are experts on what the poor need.

Most people to have billionaire idolization issues don't bother to see that those people got their money through generational wealth hoarding and not through the protestant idea of "hard work". The generations before have used politics, laws and loophole ls to avoid paying a fair share. The only hard work they have ever put in was finding ways to not be taxed into the social programs. Even their "charities" are just forms of laundering money to avoid taxes.

@FoxyGoddess Abolish inherited wealth through a 100% confiscatory tax on any assets apart from the family home; ruthlessly pursue those who hide their wealth from the tax authorities overseas or behind a corporate veil; pay a living wage for a day's work. Then I might start to believe that accumulated wealth actually reflects effort and hard work.
Convivial · 26-30, F
I'm not totally ok with the first part of your question...poor people are sometimes in that state because of bad decisions made through lack of education...I think just giving money without guidance doesn't help them in the long run....

@Convivial the keyword there is sometimes. Most poverty isn't caused by bad decisions, so should all poor people be told what to do with their money because a small number needs that?
DogMan · 61-69, M
@Convivial Very true. Studies have been done where they give homeless guys a place to live, transportation,
and a job. The average was 6 months before they were on the streets again.

A large majority of these guys do NOT want any responsibilities. They are "Their own man"

I know this because I worked among them for a few years doing what I had to do to get out of
debt. I was not homeless, but I was close. I eventually achieved the American dream with no
help from anyone except my wonderful wife.
DogMan · 61-69, M
Poor people are poor because they do not know how to handle money, or live a prosperous life.

You can pretend the rich took advantage of them, but you would be wrong little fella.

I was poor, and I worked alongside homeless people. I have drank with them, I know how they think.

I also know what it takes to be prosperous, some people need to be taught. I didn't.

The ones that need help are the women with kids that had the father take off.
G7J2O · M
@BrandNewMan And with that, I know you're out of moves :)
BrandNewMan · 61-69, M
@G7J2O Just out of patience for your B.S. .. your delusions that all this is some kind of "move" on your part or that you are proving anything with all the hot air.

See ya.
G7J2O · M
@BrandNewMan game set and match to me.
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
Or Politicians embezzling funds claiming how people on Centrelink benefits get enough money. Well, when Politicians get paid the same amount as people on retirement benefit or the dole which is even less. This country will change for the better.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
It's ridiculous and economically illiterate. A family living on benefits that spends every penny they receive immediately in local shops does more to benefit the economy than a wealthy man storing the interest of his capital in a bank account.

@Reason10
I hear ya. They make tattoo parlors, nail parlors, expensive hair salons RICH. They spend it before they make it.

But do they? No. They don't. That's a lazy, bigoted, misogynistic stereotype.
Yep, the whole notion that rich people are just better at handling money than poor people is ridiculous. How is weighing what you need the most right now "making wrong choices", yet buying your 10th sports car that's too low to leave the grounds of your mansion undamaged is "a good investment"?

Punish success, reward failure
G7J2O · M
@BrandNewMan then I can only conclude that you DO think poor people need to be told how to spend money.

Rich people do not hoard their money. They pay the most taxes and they create the jobs that make this country work.

I have a problem with intentionally poor people who buy Mercedes with "dey food stamp." That's not their money.
G7J2O · M
@Reason10 But they also don't pay their workers fairly, my point, which you ignored. That's why more and more people are working but cannot afford to live.

Reason10 · 70-79, M
@G7J2O What you have ignored is the fact that ALL PAY IS FAIR. It is a sum both sides have AGREED UPON voluntarily. And all pay ACCURATELY REFLECTS THE MARKET VALUE OF THAT LABOR.

A hospital janitor does not make as much money as a Heart Surgeon because THE HEART SURGEON IS WORTH MORE MONEY.

It's NOT the job of the employer to entitle an employee to a comfortable living. It is the job of the employee to have a skill set that is WORTH A COMFORTABLE LIVING.

And the REASON the mediocre workers cannot afford to live is 99 percent due to Democrat policies which have given America the WORST inflation of all time and made EVERYTHING more expensive. Democrat TAXES and that dumbass climate change lie has made gasoline unaffordable. Allowing illegal aliens to violate our borders freely is why housing demand skyrocketed, making rents too high for those who work at lower income levels.

Don't blame the employers for the results of Democrat policies.
