The current U.S. president is fulfilling his responsibility to enforce existing law. No more. No less.
I guess that's true, if you consider invoking emergency powers as if he's ordering a hamburger, a normal state of affairs. And why does he invoke those emergency powers? Because without them, he wouldn't be able to do what he promised to do... because it doesn't fit inside the law Bob.
But hey... can't work within the law, just declare a national emergency and do what you want untill the process in judicial system is finished and the supreme court tells you to stop. In the meantime, while that process is running, a lot of the damadge is already done. And people, like yourself, can pretend that it's all lawfull.
Also, the fascist remark... if the MAGA world doesn't want to be compared to those 1920s and 1930s movements, maybe they shouldn't try so hard to look as them? From retweeting fascists:
To using symbols:
To copying language... like talking about how the blood of the nation is being poisoned. Or Stephen Miller plaguerising parts of Joseph Goebels' speech at the Charlie Kirk memorial service, to obsessing over "warriors", to showing the drill sergeant from Full Metal Jacket as an ideal for the militairy, using actual pictures of the wehrmacht during the 2nd world war in their propaganda, using a concept like "a new reich" in their propaganda, ... or just using MAGA which was used by American Fascists in the 1930s. Even the emphasis of "America First", was a rallying cry for Oswald Mosley who used "Britain First" for his fascist movement.
But hey... that's okay, I understand you haven't been paying attention. And it's probably hard to see what's going on, when your conception of fascism is dulled down to hollywood levels.
Prior presidents, Clinton and Obama, also removed court hearings and reduced rigor of other aspects of due process due to the number of illegals to be addressed. Legal precedent for Trump to do the same is therefore already established.
What is fascist about enforcing existing immigration laws that were broken by Biden in allowing millions to enter ? Why should the US ignore and accept millions allowed into the country illegally? Would Canada? I think not.
When you look at it, he is above the law. He does what he wants, when he wants, how he wants and the sad thing is he can do it as long as he's president.
Some courts try to halt him but it's useless.
Let's hope he's out of office in 2028 and not actually change the Constitution so he can maintain the position of president. He's been talking about it and I'm quite sure his people are working on ways.
He opened the ways for racism to resurface.
He opened the way for insurrection to take place.
He opened the way for even attempted assassinations and threats against government officials to become a part of the norm
And with all the changes he's made and those who've lost their jobs needed government support, while he's continually spending millions on his pleasure. The American people are the ones footing the bill with the very high price increases with his tariffs, not affecting him one bit or his family or the wealthy.
And his ice agents: he's only trying to outdo what President Obama did with his deportations and Obama deported those who came illegally without all of this crap that's going on now.
The media pushes A story, not THE story. Fear sells. Yes, there are things going on that not everyone agrees with. Yes, to some it seems extreme. However, things have gotten very politicized, our country was invaded, our lifelong politicians are more corrupt than ever. It’s time for change. Real change and that is uncomfortable for some. We survived some bad times and will make it through this one too.
@justbob Your ignorance is alarming. There is no "rioting" in Portland or Chicago or LA or NYC; just protesters exercising their right to assembly and their right of free speech.
Regarding non-citizens residing in the US, tRump revoked refugee status and temporary protected status on hundreds of thousands of people. Those refugees and TPS people entered the US legally under the 8 U.S.C. § 1158 Asylum laws. They did NOT commit the crime of illegal entry.
Repeat: those people did NOT commit the crime of illegal entry. They entered LEGALLY under our asylum laws. Personally, I think our asylum laws need to be rewritten, but that's neither here nor there.
And then tRump's government declared them illegal. And his brownshirts started grabbing them off the street; no Miranda rights, no phone call; just shipping them across state borders too fast for due process to keep up. And some are moved across national borders to concentration camps in other countries. Don't try and soft-pedal those places, they are modern concentration camps.
One example:
Despite being American citizens, three children — a 4-year-old boy with Stage 4 kidney cancer, his 7-year-old sister and a 2-year-old girl — were swept up along with their families by immigration authorities in Louisiana and quickly sent to Honduras, according to a lawsuit filed on behalf of the families.
The suit alleges that despite the government’s own directives, the parents “were never given a choice as to whether their children should be deported with them and were prohibited from contacting their counsel or having meaningful contact with their families to arrange for the care of their children.” The mothers, named in the suit as Rosario and Julia, allege they wanted their children to remain in the U.S.
It is very scary and even moreso being amongst people that support what is going on. Many of us are going to fall into poverty because of this, many will die if trump is successful.
It is getting pretty scary here, ICE agents acting like the gestapo, a president who wants anyone who disagrees with him to be prosecuted. We are rapidly becoming a thrid world country.
It's old news. The population heard back in 1991 that the Soviets had collapsed because the West was so superior, nobody would ever need a new economic system again. It was the end of history, and Americans would simply rule the world unopposed forever! They're sticking with that. No matter what.
