Wtf is 'soccer'?
@BlobbyMcBlobface Probably something to do with socks. If you have two drawers full of socks and your mate only has one drawer full, you're more socker than him. It became "soccer" when someone took aversion to the letter "k".

I think it might have something to do with its simplicity. You just need a ball and a field to play it. There's not enough gear involved. Plus, we have hockey, which is kinda like soccer but much faster and much more gear required to play, as well as that extra skill of ice skating on razor blades
All jokes aside, i think i might be right. ..although it doesn't explain why basketball is so popular. 🤔 maybe the court counts as gear?

I've watched only a few soccer games and I really didn't like seeing guys get fouled and play it up like they've been seriously injured. Until the foul is called and they jump up smiling. Wtf? Seems very juvenile.
I loved playing the game in school though. It was my favorite sport to play.

The NFL has turned football into more of a concert vibe, so why expect actual action on the field?
But to answer your question, soccer--or football, as it is called on most of the planet -- relies too much on defense and strategy for the average American fan. Plus, until recent years, the average American didn't understand the rules, let alone any of the strategy. So it was sort of the same as Alistair Cooke's famous line about American baseball "being boring to boring minds". But a couple of generations of American kids and their soccer moms have now raised the IQ and the support is beginning to gain traction at all levels in the US.
Hopefully none of those boring minds entranced with the light shows, smoke bombs, and chest bumps of the NFL & NBA concert circuit will feel the need to start dumbing down soccer as they are attempting to do with baseball.

I love my boys (Liverpool FC).
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
Honest answer : in US we are taught to play ball games w our hands not our feet .
@AthrillatheHunt So, it's handball. Not football.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@jackieash it should be . No idea where the name came from , and I KNOW it doesn’t make sense , but it just feels right , ya know ?
FreeSpirit1 · F
I actually like women’s soccer but not men’s, don’t ask me why.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
Our best athletes never chose soccer . We like to watch our best athletes.
Julien · 36-40, M
@AthrillatheHunt oh I know , I’ve watched it ( go Steelers) but you can’t call them athletes. Idk if they run a total of 20 min per player in the whole game . And you have players who spend their entire career without doing a pass
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@Julien couldn’t disagree more but not feeling like getting into it . I’m not a football or baseball fan but I’m a Steelers and Mets fan by birth (no say in the matter )

I think it's got something to do with the scoring rate. The end zone celebrations tend to eat up a fair bit of time too
gregloa · 61-69, M
Why do non Americans think it’s not?🤣😂🤣
They're probably the Piateks who bought Carlisle United a few years ago and still waiting to see any football being played.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
I got bored when the word soccer appeared
ViciDraco · 41-45, M
To be fair, I think both are boring!
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
Someone's getting desperate now.

Football is also boring.
Julien · 36-40, M
Because they don’t understand it
Also American football is far inferior to rugby ( just hate baiting 😂)

Football is all about commercial placement and homo-erotic posturing . . any onfield entertainment is an unfortunate distraction.

@AthrillatheHunt why dont they choose rugby ? Are they scared ? lol ;)
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@Julien you’d have to ask them why. But the number 1 answer is usually $
Julien · 36-40, M
@AthrillatheHunt fear of getting a little bit hurt without all the padding must be close second 😂
