@gol979 Well, I will say that Musk is not playing to anyone to the left of, say, Hannity. That should be obvious.
Also, regarding inherent racism, I will say that Trump's "Base" in the Deep South and Midwest were always the sort of people who claimed they were never going to fall for the patter of a slick, fast-talking New Yorker like Trump.
So what did he pander to in order to get them onside? It was obvious from 2016.
I want somebody hired by qualifications & not because some government program forces /shapes who is hired
But most who belive in DEI or similar programs can't see that they don't work
Explain this .... 50 blue workers & 50 purple workers & time for layoffs ... the bottom 25 horrible/bad workers are all blue but according to the government programs you need to keep an even ratio so you layoff 10 blue & 10 purple ... your diversity no longer let's you keep the best workers ... before you say impossible it happens in my field regularly
DEI is fair because you know as well as I do the amount of CVs that are tossed casually into the bin because someone has a foreign sounding name, even if they are the best qualified candidate. There's been mountains of studies done that have shown this time and time again. And THAT is not fair.
But, that aside, let's just remember that you've said, on this thread:

You are clearly in favour of a meritocratic economy where only those who are the most qualified and experienced should be hired. Fair enought.
But you also believe that better qualified candidates are routinely passed over because they are White. Frankly that's BS: the opposite is true 99% of the time.
You want the best of the best? Well, I've got news for you. Your government no longer has the best of the best. It is fast becoming a hive of unqualified, inexperienced mindless drones, hand-picked by President Musk because they will do HIS bidding.
Musk getting rid of DEI is a MASSIVE distraction, because he hopes that people aren't noticing that he is essentially eviscerating the Federal government and replacing highly experienced, supremely competent government workers with unqualified loyalists who are barely out of school. And that's also why he's furious that judges are exposing him. He's trying to cover his tracks.
You should have a real problem with this. It's concerning that you clearly don't.

It seems to me that you have an unshakeable belief that a non-White person should never be hired over a White person...
lots of passion surrounding DEI. I'd like a society where everyone has equal opportunities and feels valued, regardless of background. having dialogue is crucial for productive change.
@pdockal i am a union member (millwright 11 years). i own and operate a unionized precision metal fabrication business. i recruit unionized skilled labor. i do not subscribe to DEI as it is defined today.
My business recruits and selects union candidates to fulfill skilled labor roles. hiring for roles through the labor union is both efficient and very effective in my opinion, compared to how it's done in non-union businesses. but that's another topic 😁

Union members are free to apply for skilled labor openings in my business. My business recruits and selects the best union applicant for the role. It works really well because the union presents candidates that are educated and skilled in the positions the business needs. Tenue in my business is very long too.

My business is unionized. My customers and my business partners prefer it. precision metal fab is a very niche and capital intense business - I benefit greatly from having a union shop
so you do subscribe to DEI (irreguardless of how its defined)
It's an interesting question. I say: "I try to treat everyone fairly regardless of background." But the counter argument that I encounter frequently is: fair according to who? fair according to what standard? This is where I struggle with "DEI" because it's not a proxy for "fair" and it is simultaneously used as a banner commandeered for any platform of the day (political, social, etc.. ). On "DEI", I have opinions, and endless debates depending on the audience or agenda
