Well...I WAS a Democrat at one time. I was really into recycling, organic gardening, tree hugging...you know...what they used to call hippie dippie stuff...🤣🤣🤣
But then in 2016 I heard President Trump SPEAK! It was as though he was speaking to my SOUL...because my face flushed, and I FELT what he was saying. He talked about restoring our nation to what it USED to be. He talked about the way we had declined, and about all the things he could do to make it better!
I never became a Republican. I became an Independent, and I have voted for Trump THREE times now, on the basis of what he wants to DO for his country.

I picked the party that mattered locally, for primary purposes, since, at the time, only one did.

I dont choose a party. I look for policies and whether they add up.😷

I'm registered as a libertarian but vote like an independent, the last presidential election I chose to opt out of voting I didn't approve of either candidate

Ideology, ideas, manifesto promises.
Then, years ago, I realised little of that matters. You can focus on small, domestic issues that might affect you directly, or bigger foreign policies that affect events globally. There's many reasons to pick one party over the other, but in the UK, our foreign policy hardly differs from one party to the next. Both Labour and Conservatives are willing to act as a vassal state for the USA.

Pickings are slim in the US if you want to be a member of a party with a reasonable chance of having an impact. But haven't found one I like yet. (though one is much worse than the other)

I figured out what I believe first and then picked a party accordingly. Even then I mostly walked away from party politics because of the futility of it.

familial abuse, I pick the most personally liberating. People who always want something from me or want to blame me for things will have my ire
I refuse to choose a side. One people, one planet.
