Back to the 19th century ....

A key legal adviser to Robert Kennedy Jr, Donald Trump’s pick for health secretary, is at the center of efforts to push federal drug regulators to revoke approval for the polio and hepatitis B vaccines and block distribution of 13 other critical vaccines.

Aaron Siri, a lawyer who has been helping Kennedy select top health administrators as part of the Trump transition process, is deeply embedded in longstanding efforts to force the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to withdraw a raft of vaccines that have saved the lives and health of millions of Americans.

Back to the fourteenth century. The 19th was positively enlightened compared to our own times.

@SunshineGirl yes well there is that of course🤔
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@SunshineGirl No we are just the same. There has been no enlightenment and we are no smarter than our ancestors.

@hippyjoe1955 Really? A study published in The Lancet in April 2024 shows that vaccination programmes targeting 14 previously deadly diseases have helped to reduce infant deaths by 40% globally (and over 50% in Africa). Over the past 50 years they have saved an estimated 154 million lives.

I'd say that is the most dazzling illumination in human history since Adam sat down for a mid morning snack and realised he wasn't wearing trousers 🤔

@SunshineGirl Deadly diseases have a habit of becoming less and less deadly as they go. That and herd immunity is achieved. On the other hand many vaccines are not tested or proven safe but are mandated to control some very minor diseases.

@hippyjoe1955 There's no pleasing some people . .

These things do not happen by accident. Bubonic plague was becoming increasingly frequent and deadly in urbanising societies until we began to apply basic hygiene and quarantine measures consistently.

The past 250 years has been one long and extremely successful experiment in the development of useful vaccines.
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@SunshineGirl So when were you vaccinated for the plague?
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@hippyjoe1955 I was using it as another example of how deadly diseases do not become less deadly without human intervention (or massive population loss).
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@SunshineGirl So you think that measles is going to wipe out the human race?

@hippyjoe1955 and everyone knows that the West would rather nuke the entire planet than risk progress it doesn't own and enslave.

@SunshineGirl In some ways I agree with you. In others, we were positively backward.

@KunsanVeteran but look at the bright side... We can introduce burning witches again.... Or those that don't believe in his trumpishness
