Tim Walz Demands Major Change to the Constitution, Says “Electoral College Needs to Go”

“I think all of us know the Electoral College needs to go,” Walz said, according to Politico. “We need a national popular vote that is something. But that’s not the world we live in.”

Notably, Walz’s running mate, Vice President Kamala Harris, said that she is “open to the discussion” of doing away with the Electoral College during a 2019 appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” while running for the White House in the 2020 race.

Whoopsie, it looks like someone just said the quiet part out loud!

Radical Democrats have been ranting against the Electoral College for years. They stepped up whining in 2016, after Trump defeated Hillary Clinton by winning the electoral vote but losing the popular vote. The only other president to do this was former President George W. Bush back in 2000, when he defeated the Democrat Al Gore.

I 100% agree with Walz. The Electoral College is grossly undemocratic. One person, one vote is how a democracy should work. The EC has to go.

No other country has anything as ridiculous as the electoral college in their election systems.

"No taxation without representation!"

@badminton it really is a shame how many people like you have no idea how this nation was intended to work, or why. it's a republic not a democracy and there are very good reasons why it is so. those reasons are as valid today as they were then. perhaps even more so!

@GerOttman Wrong. The United States is a representative democracy. This means that our government is elected by citizens. Over more than two centuries we have made America more democratic. After the Civil War slavery was ended and African-Americans could vote. In the early 20th century women got the vote. Neutralizing the absurd electoral college is a further step in that process. America should work for ALL it's people, not just the wealthy.

@badminton never learned the pledge of allegiance at commie camp did you?

@GerOttman Red baiting! How quaint. If believing in democracy and equality makes me a commie pinko then sign me up. And it sounds to me like you never read the Declaration of Independence or the Bill of Rights.

@GerOttman If the theory of the founders, was put into practise, Donald Trump wouldn't have been president in 2016.
Also, your country is both a democracy and a republic. Just going: "it's a republic not a democracy and there are very good reasons why it is so.", just shows that you are repeating a talking point that makes no sense. And if it really was a republic, a system that is heavily invested in the virtues of the political leader... then what "virtues" does Trump even bring to the table?
GerOttman · 70-79, M
@Kwek00 so you're a babbler! good for you, and well versed in making no sense as well. as to your varied and disjointed comment, so what?
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@GerOttman What part that I said, isn't correct according to you?

@badminton First Past the Post in the UK has some of the same odd effects. But it is a system for choosing a governing party rather than a Caesar, and I think it would be near impossible to select a "winner" with a minority of the popular vote.
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@SunshineGirl Representation, as an outcome of winning the popular vote, doesn't mean you are voting for a caesar. Even when it comes to direct democracy, what all these: "We are a republic not a democracy"-zombies like to moan about, doesn't result in caesarism. Caesar, rose to power when a republican system was in place btw.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@Kwek00 Just a figure of speech, not a criticism. An important strand of American historiography is fear of a modern Caesar emerging (or at least some peoples interpretation of Roman history).
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@SunshineGirl That fear excisted from the very beginning. Espescially in more conservative-early-liberal circles, like Hamilton and Adams. That's one of the reasons why Americans have the electoral college.

@GerOttman Hey, I'm going to bed now... can't wait for your answer. Can't wait till I'm proven wrong and feel how much it sucks to discover the truth.

@badminton Other countries? This is America. Who cares what other countries do.
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@HobNoblin sjjjjjt 🤫 @GerOttman is still thinking hard on explaining himself. Might be he abandoned the effort, mostly because he's unable to explain that he just says things, instead of thinking about what he says.
