When did NATO become

@kutee Did you ever hear of the British Empire? I think the US used to be a part of it. Growing up in Canada I certainly knew about it. The Queens picture was on the wall at school. Yes America is an empire. It has combat troops all over the world whether the countries they are occupying want them there or not.

No! having troops all over the world doesn't make an empire. America used to be part of the British Empire, but Americans threw tea into Boston Harbour amongst other things and became a nuisanse, unlike Canada

@Dave1955 So about the NATO expansion? Why did NATO deny Russia entry? Russia is not the USSR.

@hippyjoe1955 NATO is there to stop USSR expansion. After WW2 the so called Iron Curtain was formed, which divided East (Soviet block counties like Poland, Czechoslovakia and East Germany (DGR) from the West. NATO is there to defend Europe from any modren day Russian expansion, which has happened in the Crimea and Ukraine of course.

@Dave1955 the USSR ceased to exist over 30 years ago. Crimea was always part of Russia as was much of Ukraine. Had NATO stayed home there would be no conflict there. I think you are stuck in a time warp.
