Swing state polls

With Tuesday's elections under our belt, what have we learned?

(1) The right to abortion continues to win. Last year, restrictions on abortion rights lost in Kentucky & Montana, while California, Michigan & Vermont to protect existing abortion rights. Add to that the win in Ohio, and we see the public choosing abortion rights in both red and blue states.

(2) Yesterday Democrats finished taking over the Virginia state legislature by flipping the state House. Last year Democrats flipped the Minnesota Senate, Michigan Senate, Michigan House, and Pennsylvania House.

(3) In Kentucky, a democratic governor won in a very red state.

Usually, in off year elections, when turnout is smaller, republicans do better than in major years that include presidential elections. Usually, in an off year like this, Democrats are telling themselves they traditionally lose a bit and win it back on presidential years.

This year is different! This low-turnout year, Democrats made significant gains! Has the traditional rule reversed? Will Republicans make gains in a high-turnout year? Or have the demographic trends -aging & whitening - finally caught up with republicans?

Only time will tell, but it's certainly encouraging to see that young people and, women continue to reject the Republican policies and platforms; continue to embrace science and reproductive rights.

The same poll was conducted by the same polling organization with the caveat that Trump had a formal conviction. And all of those results flipped. At this point it seems like this race is riding on whether or not Trump survives his legal issues.
@RosaMarie That's the billion dollar question.
RosaMarie · 41-45, F
@ElwoodBlues I think at this point, Biden is the guy.
JPWhoo · 36-40, MVIP
@RosaMarie I’ve read that Governor Gavin Newsome of California is winning the “shadow primary”.

Polls aren’t votes
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
These are amazing polls given that everytime tRump is involved in an election, his pick is defeated, look at this recent election another demonstration that there appears to be some sane citizens voting!
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
The only poll that counts is the first Tuesday in November. Today Ohioans voted to protect abortion rights, Kentucky re-elected a democratic governor, Virginia now has a democratic legislature....
Biden should just drop out it is pathetic if you cant even compete against Trump even though he is facing criminal charges and he is still beating everyone

@ExperienceDLT That's fine. You will just have to accept what other people want then.
@windinhishair nothing else new on that

The election is a year away. We will see what the landscape looks like in ten months or so and will have a much better idea then of who is likely to win. If you go back and look at polling and reports from 2011, Obama was predicted to lose to whoever the Republican nominee was going to be in 2012, and yet by the time the election came around in 2012, he beat Romney handily.

After 3 years of absolute stupidity why wouldn't he lead. He led in 2020 until the deep state twisted the election. They love the dead. They vote Democrat but don't cost anything.
calicuz · 51-55, M
I don't know, I heard Kennedy was pulling up stong and might end up being the Dark Horse in all of this. 🤷‍♂️
@calicuz I heard Kennedy was pulling more voters from Trump than from democrats. After all, the conspiracy theory voters prefer folks that spin lots of conspiracy theories!
calicuz · 51-55, M
@ElwoodBlues

Yeah, but he hasn't mentioned "Jewish Space Lasers" yet, so he might have a chance. 😂
smiler2012 · 56-60
@Dad34 would not be too smug about it as in four of the five states the do not knows could swing it against trump
Baremine · 70-79, C
@smiler2012 hopefully they are smarter than that.
RosaMarie · 41-45, F
Still a year away and pretty funny that you posted this on what turned out to be the continuation of a very bad 12 months for the party of Trump.
Baremine · 70-79, C
@RosaMarie COVID was financed by the democrats. Obama and fauchi. And climate change is questionable as climate runs in cycles.
RosaMarie · 41-45, F
@Baremine I understand that you have lies that you tell yourself so that you don't have to deal with actual facts.
Baremine · 70-79, C
@RosaMarie whatever
...and the source is the NY Times. The real numbers are worse for Biden. Throw in Wisconsin as the 6th swing state, as the Slimes claims Biden has a 2 pt lead.
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
Polls aren't votes. Let's hope Biden's legacy won't only be the slaughter going on in Gaza.
FreestyleArt · 31-35, M
The question is...will the people wake up at 3am during a glitch process? I doubt it.
Oh wow, you could call it a "red dawn!"
Kypro · 51-55, M
@AmericaFirst or hell!
@Kypro I mean if Trump wins.... it's all about diversity these days isn't it- it might make orange people feel like they have more representation....
carpediem · 61-69, M
You see why they are so desperate to nail him on something. ANYTHING.

Polls aren’t reliable. Remember 2016?
