Israel's row with the UN.

Israel is in the process of banning UN officials after the general secretary's comments.

He condemned Hamas and also said that their actions didn't happen in a vacuum. He also said that Israel had committed war crimes and was inflicting collective punishment on Palestinians.

I have read his comments and I can't see how what he said was wrong. The Israeli government themselves have said that all people in Gaza are responsible for what Hamas did. They are also clearly acting on that assumption and collective punishment is a war crime according the the UN's own rules.

That Palestinians have been existing under military occupation is likewise irrefutable. Is this a sign that movers and shakers of world politics are moving against the actions of the Netanyahu government? I really hope that it is.

The Israeli government is misrepresenting, some might say deliberately, the words "didn't happen in a vacuum" to mean that there was provocation and hence the actions of Hamas were justified. However, the statement from the UN chief included the following:
I have condemned unequivocally the horrifying and unprecedented 7 October acts of terror by Hamas in Israel.

Nothing can justify the deliberate killing, injuring and kidnapping of civilians – or the launching of rockets against civilian targets.

All hostages must be treated humanely and released immediately and without conditions. I respectfully note the presence among us of members of their families
So to claim that the UN is justifying Hamas' recent actions is disingenuous. The UN is doing what it is supposed to do. No state or nation should be beyond scrutiny and indeed criticism.

Gee, if those "innocent civilians" in gaza don't like the raghead terrorists using their land to lob rockets and kill Israelis, they should toss the raghead terrorists out
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@Burnley123 They must approve since they let them use their land for a terrorist base
TrashCat · M
@sunsporter1649 Racist much, but were they "ragheads" when they gave Jared Kushner $2Billion and were buddying up to King Donald?
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@TrashCat $2 Billion for products and services rendered, you omitted. Just what services or products have the biden crime family given to anyone?

Israel is being totally ignorant of the consequences of treating a population like that. Doesn't excuse what Hamas has done, but it's literally just like looking at someone who was raised by shitty parents. Doesn't excuse that person going on to hurt others, but it explains why they are messed up to begin with
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@deadgerbil They must want the raghead terrorists there, or else they would toss the raghead terrorists out.

This is part of an Israeli attempt to control the narrative, and shame the world into accepting the Netanyahu government's version of the story.

Inclusion of any sub-contexts, and even the main context, which is the occupation of Palestinian land and the absence of a Palestinian State, will force people to take into consideration the suffering of the Palestinian people, and that is something Netanyahu's government cannot take.

Leaks from within the US State department, also indicate that the State Department is making sure that none of these sub-contexts are part of any State Department, or Administration communication. The WaPo is reporting a brewing insurrection within the State Department, as this is the sort of thing, that ties their hands, as they do their daily job: communicate with world government.

Even within the US media, the message is clear: if you try to include the sub-contexts in anything you say, you will instantly be black listed. You will also be fired from your job, or if you have a job offer, it will be rescinded, and if you are an educational institution, your funds will evaporate.

World governments are now frustrated with how long this it taking, and the human impact.

I expect Netanyahu to be gone soon, and post-Gaza will see not only a revival of the 2-state solution, but also a major push for it, from the same groups that today do not want it to be discussed.

@Northwest I hope you are right in your predictions

This is typically the reaction of the UN. They constantly condemn Israel, and the US protects them by vetoing anything bad for Israel.

Israel is making an issue of it as they want no resistance to flattening Gaza and sending its citizens scurrying over the border to Egypt. They are looking to justify what they want to do. They've been looking for an excuse for years.

@Burnley123 You pussy.
Ynotisay · M
What's been interesting to me is that I haven't seen too many standing with them in a black and white way which I think they anticipated. The context is being acknowledged. I think it's a new road for Israel and they'll act in an expected way. It's a highly conservative administration which means "us vs. them" and any backlash is driven by antisemitism. They're playing the expected cards but I'm not sure the "world" is buying it.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Ynotisay I think that Gutteres is probably saying out loud what a lot of world leaders privately think.

Israel is hitting back hard but - like you say - it's notable that no governments have attacked him or leapt to Israel's defense. In the past, this would have happened.
Ynotisay · M
@Burnley123 Yep. This time is different. The "right" is trying to frame it that any acknowledgement of the plight of Palestinians is tacit support for Hamas. But that's not flying. And I have a feeling that Israeli leadership is waking up to that fact.

UN is an anti-Israel hate organization. Known for putting horrid human rights violators on human rights commissions.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@graphite You hearted my post so I'm assuming that this is trolling.
Bumbles · 51-55, M
I’d prefer if the UN just was an international aid organization, and could perhaps meet on other matters on an ad how basis. In my life I can’t think of a situation where it’s done much good. The whole veto power structure doomed it from the start.

Other than the weirdness of dictators and enemies being in NYC, and sitting across from each other, what’s the point.
@Bumbles And he let Kennedy go home looking like the hero.

@SumKindaMunster Yeah, I didn't know he got laughs, either!

It's a wonder they haven't labelled him an anti-semite yet.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@RodionRomanovitch They can say this about leftist activists with no power and no platform but it's harder to do when it's a major player from an institution respected by most people.

Even their claim about him tacitly supporting Hamas isn't washing with anyone who isn't a hard core Zionist.

It's not to say they won't if this escalates. However, i see this as a sign that they are losing the PR battle with world opinion.
PhilDeep · 51-55, M
I hope so. I thought finally someone of authority who can't immediately be accused of bias talking straight-up and not burying things under the carpet in terms of resolutions not complied with. I find it astonishing how blatantly media is being used and how stupidly people are being manipulated into just reacting without even stopping to think how much they actually know, which isn't much, frankly. Very sad.
smiler2012 · 56-60
@Burnley123 i watched this on the bbc news and united nation secretary reckons he never said what israel are accusing him of what he said was taken out of context . the real issue here rights and wrong on both sides is too stop this crazy war and stop the killing and suffering of the innocent civilians in palestine and israel with the bombing
specman · 51-55, M
Oh poor Hamas! LMAO!!!
HAHAHAHA!
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@specman Okaaaaaay.

That response was 'on the money'. 😆

Everybody has history.
Including the U.N.
And rarely is it palatable.

Israel has consistently broken endless international treaties and agreements. Some of which they helped draft !

The Palestinians (or more accurately) the majority terrorist organisations who say they represent the people of Palestine will also never be satisfied as long as any Jew exists next door.

And the U.N. has never quite recovered from it's blue helmets wandering aimlessly around Yugoslavia as it fell apart and the term ethnic cleansing became a nightly news buzz phrase.

Spout all the alleged history you want. These three protagonists continually play this game as generation after generation watch as nothing changes.
This is what happens when you get the privilege of being a UN member but also have a security council member wrapped around your finger so you get a blanket pass on any and all responsibility that is supposed to come with said membership.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Sorry?

You've missed the news. The UN and Israel are at bitter loggerheads.
@Burnley123 I think you missed my meaning. The UN and Israel being at loggerheads has been the default for a long time.

My point is having a member of the security council (the US) giving them blanket cover for decades has created an environment where the leadership in Israel feel they can do whatever they want without consequence.

The disputes are largely theatrical because the US makes sure there are no real consequences for any of it.
With the US in their corner no spat with the UN will have real world consequences but the outrage they can milk this for is useful for spin.
They're utterly genocidal. It's old news. It'll be a secret again. Unless people agree to major changes in what you can claim is true.

so is Israel cracking the shits now and gonna kill very palastinian it can?
