Safe injection sites

Safe injection sites are the best way to reduce the stigma associated with drug use. These facilities provide a safe and hygienic environment for drug users to inject their substances under the supervision of trained medical staff. By creating a non-judgmental space, safe injection sites can help reduce the social exclusion and discrimination associated with addiction. Furthermore, by promoting hygiene and harm reduction strategies, these facilities can also help prevent the spread of bloodborne diseases like HIV and Hepatitis C. Overall, safe injection sites are an important step towards reducing the stigma associated with drug use and promoting public health.

They should be available in every city. The War on drugs is and was a massive failure. It's time to choose a different path, one that saves lives and improves society by taking care of its weakest.

We should also have safe rape facilities for serial rapists. Safe theft stores for kleptomaniacs and shop lifters. Safe day care centers for pedophiles. Safe roadways and routes for alcoholics and drunk drivers.

@AtticEscapee 😌👋🏼
Graylight · 51-55, F
@AtticEscapee Yes, because a physical disorder of the brain should be treated like criminal activity.

It’s 2023, not 1873.

@AtticEscapee you cant win pal 😉

This model works. It’s working in locations in multiple places. You know what else helps? Giving homeless people homes.

We’re so caught up in anyone getting something for free that we forget we pay lip service to mental health and addiction in the first place.

Make it all legal. Then it stops being romantic and becomes as pitiful as it really is.
Gloomy · F
@hunkalove Maybe some media depictions romanticise it but in reality this couldn't be further from the truth.
I appreciate you supporting drug use not being criminalized.
NewRaven · 51-55, F
@hunkalove and tax the crap out of it.
pdockal · 56-60, M
That's ridiculous!
They are breaking the law and should be punished not coddled.
pdockal · 56-60, M
@Gloomy

That's the best insult you can throw my why ... not much of an insult as insults go

Bastard .... hmmm .... didn't realize i didn't have a father ... thank you for enlightening me ... would have be totally lost without your insight and vast knowledge

I'm laughing my ass off

Just shows how uneducated and immature you are
Gloomy · F
@pdockal Doesn't show my education or immaturity.

You defending US military spending and probably the crimes committed by your country in the past is worrying.
Your lack of knowledge on sociology and your lack of empathy with other people are the real issue.
pdockal · 56-60, M
@Gloomy

Highly educated and mature people refrain from throwing insults

I deal in reality not probably!
I'm not defending any crimes!
I'm asking for MORE military spending because there are terrorists and dictators in the world who hate us!

You should worry about YOUR country not MINE !

your in charge of setting the standards of empathy ?

Give a man a fish and he eats for a day
Teach a man to fish and he won't go hungry

Good day
Good luck

And people are available in case of OD, to offer various firms of assistance, etc. Once drug abuse is considered a medical/public health problems and address it as such, not as a law enforcement issue, we can move in that direction.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
The war on drugs is prohibition coupled with political repression in Latin America.

I'm personally against people using hard drugs but I'd decriminalise everything.
Shooting up is not a desirable thing to do but locking up addicts is a dark rabbit hole that governments should not go down.

This is a good idea as it will stop the spread of disease, STIs, etc.
Nobody wants to reduce the harms to addicts in a capitalist society. Obviously the guns and cars and overdoses kill the willing and the deserving. This is the goal. We're here! Put your shoes on, kids! It's time to work hard and become roadkill for the fascists! It's our destination.
If they all OD, then we won't need any supervised injection sites. The taxpayers would save a bundle.
@Gloomy No one told them to stick a needle into their arm. It's their problem, not the taxpayers.
Gloomy · F
@thedarkside Congrats for failing to grasp the basis of communities and societies since the dawn of humanity... being solidarity and mutual aid.
Falling into addiction is not always something people willingly choose.
chrisCA · M
@thedarkside Read a book for a change.
Quimliqer · 70-79, M
Great post, but is it not better to put the funding into addiction treatments so the users are free of the ball and chain?
That's like saying it's okay to be irresponsible. Here let me help you. Sometimes judgment from folks is good.
Gloomy · F
@Spoiledbrat Reducing addiction to irresponsible behavior is a simplification and shows you don't know anything about it.
These sites save lives and are a better way of getting people into treatment than any measure fuleled by judgment. In this case the stigma further alienates people from seeking out help.
Penny · 46-50, F
isnt shooting up illegal? it doesnt make sense if it's illegal
Gloomy · F
@Penny It shouldn't be illegal. Locking up addicts is the most stupid thing ever and fines are classist anyway.
chrisCA · M
@Penny Addiction should be treated as a disease.
