Well they are not wrong. Practically every nation on earth engages in surveillance flights and even the US only got trigger happy after a bunch of right wingers had a meltdown over on social media about it.

Because polls prove that. 40% of biden voters wouldn't have flipped for trump but maybe would have protested by voting 3rd party which would have changed the outcome. Well, they've got a point. While this won't help deflect the apparent truth that the 1st balloon is theirs, there's no evidence yet the others were anything more than domestic research. But here, we shoot first, which never, ever leads to bad things.
@Graylight im almost positive that domestic research has approved plans and notifications to norad however this is also government we are talking about so it wouldn't not be surprising if that was the case either. But at 40k feet in theory it does pose a threat to air traffic so that is understandable.

@Ozuye502 OK, he shot at a plane at close range and apparently hit the pilot. In WWI, before the Fokker was invented, opposing pilots shot at each other with pistols. That has nothing to do with idiots like JD Vance and Donald Trump Jr. saying you can shoot a balloon at 60,000 feet.
