to all the people who scream fake news when they don't like the truth

Wer die Wahrheit nicht weiß, der ist bloß ein Dummkopf. Aber wer sie weiß und sie eine Lüge nennt, der ist ein Verbrecher.

Anyone who doesn't know the truth is just a fool. But whoever knows it and calls it a lie is a criminal.

Bertold Brecht (1898 – 1956)
Ynotisay · M
What's amazing to me is how quickly the definition of "fake news,' which was a real thing, turned in to something that could defeat reality in the minds of those who choose beliefs. Most typically, beliefs that center around hate, fear, anger and enemy. And it blows my mind how EASILY that was done.
@Ynotisay Yeah, we do have to remember that fake news is a thing. The reporting on Biden banning hamburgers and gas stoves was legit fake news. But people also use "fake news" as an excuse to brush aside facts that they don't want to acknowledge.
Ynotisay · M
@BohemianBabe Sure. It goes even farther than that. When it first to fruition, 'fake news' was being generated out of other countries to sow discord. There was an area in Macedonia where it was a huge business. There was an American named Jestin Coler who made hundreds of thousands of dollars around the 2016 election. That's in addition to what was coming out of Russia. That was something we ALL should have been fighting against. But the opposite happened for a lot of people. They believed the lies and dismissed the truth. And now it's been watered down to live in more 'mainstream' online outlets. I just can't wrap my head around it.

@wildbill83 Nothing less from a late great humorist.

@Sidewinder When knowledge/fact was harder to access, it was given utmost value; Nowadays, when knowledge/fact is literally at everyones fingertips, it's given next to no value...

Gone are the days of integrity, when news waited for all the facts before reporting on something; Nowadays they just report subjective opinion, facts be damned, simply so they can boast how they were the first to report on it...

Stories don't fit the truth; the facts are omitted or changed to fit the narrative...

@wildbill83 I only replied on account of the fact that I had a 2013 calendar that had quotations from the late great Mark Twain.

Brecht was one of the greatest playwrights of the last century. I still remember seeing his Threepenny Opera live onstage in childhood. It will celebrate a centennial in 2028. 100 years. 👏

Bertold Brecht himself was a source of lucid truths
ElRengo · 70-79, M
@RedBaron
Enamoured? Or previously said worship? Not really.
I just find in his works some lucid food for thought. As it happens with other authors and to other readers.
Do I agree with him in everything? No.
In any case I find him better than some others.
What I find funny (cos it doesn´t even qualifies as irony) is to be focused on trivialities.
But of course may be is in those trivia where you find truth to be.......
RedBaron · M
@ElRengo Truth is truth. And nobody’s name is trivial. But go ahead, be selective about truth if that’s your thing.
ElRengo · 70-79, M
@RedBaron
Truth is Truth! Ohhhhhhhhhhh......what a deep definition of it!
Names may not be trivial but they become so when the core of the thing is not the name of the one saying something instead on what it may mean.
That is, the name even if important is not relevant. Insisting in it is trivial.
And of course I´m selective.
There are more truths than the ones that apply or matter on what is being said.

{@ragnalikessnow] yes this is a common attitude on similar world first by the anti vax brigade during the height of corona virus and latterly the trump core elite obdience cult base. you are correct it is though any opinion in the media that does not match theirs own it is wrong and fake news. it is though these people become close minded to something nearer the truth than there own view
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
Honesty is a double-edged sword. While many of us have been taught that "honesty is the best policy," it can be hurtful as well. Denial is one of the most common defense mechanisms of the human mind, shielding us from the hurtful truths we are unwilling to accept in favor of a relatively less hurtful lie.
TexChik · F
In America , the MSM and their truths don't usually line up with the facts, and theirs are more often propaganda. Fool me once , shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
if your lover and spouse lied to you as much as politicians and the media . youd divorce them.
ragnalikessnow · 22-25, F
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout The media or politicians are not fiancés, lovers or husbands. They have to find solutions to very complex and multifaceted problems and have to explain that to a crowd of people with lots of different interests. It is not just a conversation with one person. There is a huge difference and therefore cannot be compared
FAKE NEWS!!!

WOMAN SPREADING FAKE NEWS FAKER THAN A BARBIE DOLL!!

FFFFFAAAAAAKKKEEEEEEEEE

FAKEFAKEFAKE
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
@sexyjigsaw It's not fake, you're just defensive. You find the truth so difficult, if not impossible to accept, that you purely and simply dismiss as being fake to emotionally protect yourself.
RadioDust · 36-40, M
No one likes the Truth but then there are those who can handle the truth without no problem.
Cierzo · M
That plagiarist Brecht rat dared to teach morals 🤣🤣🤣? Maybe he was a leftist? 😉
RedBaron · M
Do you seriously not know the truth? His name was BERTOLT Brecht. If the shoe fits… 😂🤣
