People Obsessed with Politics are the most annoying

We're all gonna die people. It ain't that serious.
BohemianBabe · M Best Comment
That's literally the dumbest thing I read online this year.
@Chaoshead You know it!

@BohemianBabe That says a lot.

You really can't see the idiocy of this thread can you.
@Chaoshead
Chaoshead · 22-25, M
@Vin53 Since it's important that somebody does something, does that make it important for everybody?

I find people who obsess over politics really boring and annoying. I don't really have any interest in the topic as a whole.

That doesn't mean that I have to believe that it isn't important that someone cares about it. That's really all there is to it.
Vin53 · M
I think I got it now. There's no importance to a thing I don't care about unless there are a whole lot of people who DO care about it in which case I'm not interested other than that people are interested in it.

Gotcha, crystal clear.

It is very serious. The MAGA people are okay with attacking congress, trying to kill elected officials, ending democracy, and speeding up the destruction of coastal cities.

@BohemianBabe Dude, not everything is about status. I just really find those topics annoying and some people just can't stop talking about it and so I'm venting. That's really all there is to it.

I really am confused on why that upsets you so much.

If politics is your thing that's great, but I just find it annoying as hell.
@Chaoshead Then you should force yourself to follow politics and vote any way. Yes, it's annoying, but it's important.
AnonymousJSS · 22-25, F
FORREAL. Like stfu
Chaoshead · 22-25, M
@AnonymousJSS Why would I watch political debates when I could be watching 3-hour youtube video essays on shows I've never seen.

They just can't understand fr.
Ynotisay · M
OK. Might as well not give a shit about anything then. But maybe a different country would be good for you to check out. Maybe something in the Middle East. Or Africa. Hell. Go to Cuba. And when you get back I'll look forward to reading how "it's not that serious." Or you can just ask a woman in some Bible Belt state how it feels to not have the right to do what you want with your body in relation to the extraordinarily important decision about giving birth. I bet "it's not the serious" won't be the response.
Chaoshead · 22-25, M
@Ynotisay For every apathetic person that exists there's another passionate person that disagrees with everything you believe and is trying to enact change that you hate. Those people are the real problem, in your case.

The reason that laws seemingly never change in the US isn't because of amoral, apathetic 20 year olds. It's because the people that do care can come to diametrically opposed conclusions, that they then obsess and fight over for the rest of their lives.
Ynotisay · M
@Chaoshead Do you see how what you said was a commercial for voting? And being engaged?
And you know what? It sort of is about apathetic 20 year olds. Because it speaks to a larger issue. That's age group that votes the least. By a significant margin. Want to know who votes the most? 65-74. Because they know it matters.

And yeah man. Laws do change. They're constantly changing. You should at least clue yourself in to that. Or maybe talk to woman in a state that tells her what she can do with her body and life and get her take on it. That wouldn't do you any harm.
Chaoshead · 22-25, M
@Ynotisay I think you're missing the point.

You're still assuming that I would agree with you on the issues you're passionate about.

What if I listened to you and started to become a motivated and ambitious voter, but I decided to support the Republican Party? What if I decided to become pro-life, pro-gun redneck. Then you would have created another obstacle to your cause.

Same thing if you were a redneck and I decided to become a pro-trans, pro-socialist activist. You can't assume every motived and educated actor in the political sphere is going to have a positive impact from your perspective.

It's okay to not be politically active just like it's fine to be a Democrat or Republican. In the end, it's unknowable whether someone's decision to be liberal, conservative or nothing (in my case) is having a net positive or negative result on society.
I understand that politics can be a very divisive and contentious issue. I believe that it is important for people to be aware of what is happening in their communities and in the world around them. However, I also believe that it is important for people to focus on their own lives and well-being first and foremost. Politics can be a very stressful and taxing topic, so I think it is important for people to find a healthy balance and make sure that they are taking care of themselves while also being involved in the political process.
caPnAhab · 26-30, M
And that is the most borinnng thing to have an obsession over
Chaoshead · 22-25, M
@caPnAhab Exactly. Please, just get a hobby or something.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
There's a certain balance in almost anything.

Yet if people don't moderate their own posts there simply is no hope to stop it.

Yes, I do moderate my own posts. Especially when I am online!

Site limitations sometimes force me to take drastic measures though. Like temporarily deleting posts so I can build enough reputation to delete unwanted and insulting comments.

My whole point though is people refuse to even moderate their own posts.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@Chaoshead so you know. You do have the ability to mute whole categories.

You can mute and unmute them as wanted. There currently is no limit on how many times you can mute or unmute groups or categories.

You might want to consider muting the "Politics & News" category.
Chaoshead · 22-25, M
@DeWayfarer I was speaking also from personal experience with friends and family, which as you know aren't the easiest things to mute.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@Chaoshead if your friends are commenting in political category and you have muted that category, you really shouldn't be able to see that comment.

You have only muted that category not your friend.
Budwick · 70-79, M
You are exactly the type government wants!
You know, the kind that already has given up.
RosaMarie · 41-45, F
Says the Russians in 1916 and the Germans in 1933. Nothing to see here.
But how the country is governed actually affects everyone's lives.
If we abdicate our right to vote then we get what we deserve.
Chaoshead · 22-25, M
@hartfire I never said it wasn't important. I just can't stand when people are obsessed with it.

Their whole personality revolves around politics. It's insufferable.
@Chaoshead Ah, I see what you mean - a bit like an evangelist when they're determined to convert you to their way of thinking, hey?
I agree, obsessions about anything can be extremely irritating.
I just leave them to their own devices.
Chaoshead · 22-25, M
@hartfire That's actually a really perfect example. I have no problem with religion, people attending church etc.

But if that was all someone really cared or talked about and it took up like 80% of their mental space then obviously I wouldn't enjoy talking to them. Nobody wants to be constantly preached to, especially on a single topic.

Exactly what every politician looking to shove something down your throat wants you to think... history is replete with the instances and bodies of those who think politics is annoying.
acpguy · C
You are nothing more than a socialist from a communist run country. So I guess I can understand you have a hard time with politics as you are not allowed to have anything but one comrade.
Northwest · M
Says the guy listing in the politics section.
revenant · F
do you want to talk about sunsets ?

LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
I'm not obsessed. I just recognize that what happens in Washington, DC affects everyone.
MethDozer · M
100% there's a major difference between engaged and obsessed but few realize. Many see politics as a sport or hobby and it's creepy as fuck
Chaoshead · 22-25, M
@MethDozer Yeah. Honestly, for most people it really is just a team sport and another form of entertainment that just makes their lives feel more important.
MethDozer · M
@Chaoshead Exactly. Being obsessed with politics is just a way for people to feel important and smug really.

It's really sad because the whole politics S sport and hobby is part of the problem with these days. Two, it's like if that much time and mental energy is needed to devote to politics and new then the system is so fucked we should all just burn ourselves. It's just a sad waste of existence if that much time and energy is needed to he devoted to it.
