@basilfawlty89 And that's the thing most Americans fail to understand. That "socialism" isn't encapsulated in a couple lines. There are several forms of it, different examples in practice and it's used in various ways. It's not just "the government taking my stuff."

Actually, we're sending materiel mostly. Ask the Pentagon about that. Our materiel is being tested against our greatest strategic enemy. Ask the Pentagon how valuable it is in the world to prove that if somebody wants good war fighting equipment, they've gotta come to us. Meanwhile, our greatest strategic enemy is spending ALL his capital, weakening himself, and exposing his weakness to the world. Ask the Pentagon how valuable that is.

Our annual NSF budget is $8.8 billion. That's for all the physical, chemical, and biological science we fund. That's about the cost of ONE air craft carrier. For that money we get the best research schools in the world and some of the best trained scientists in the world. Our NSF funded scientists go out and create smarter cars and better batteries and safer drugs and many other things.

Do you want world class science in this country? Or are you willing to be second rate??
