@HikingMan When you remove a portion of world wide supply you have an impact on prices. Supply and demand. The US dominated because we were a huge exporter and had no reason to import. We produced more than we consumed. We’re also the worlds largest consumer. Now, after Biden’s nonsense, we’re on our knees in the Middle East.
All this big bad evil oil Barron garbage is BS on its face and you, are an ignoramus on a good day.

@carpediem The US is currently exporting more oil by percentage than at any other time in history.
Also..., We did increase imports from OPEC nations last year once we emerged from the lockdowns.
But we're still way below by almost 2/3rds of the imports under Trump in 2018.
Again, with your lack of real knowledge your insults against me mean absolutely nothing.
You may be on your knees to lies and ideology, but that's not the Mid-East's fault.
That's your choice.
Here, do some of your own research and just stop spewing the things you want to think that have no actual relevance in any intellectual conversation.

A surge in oil and gas production from America would reverse everything.
HikingMan · 51-55, M
@TexChik Actually, it wouldn't.
The US is currently at 96% of it's outmost capacity of oil refinement.
We would need to built 2 more refineries to substantially lower costs at the pump.
Something you will not get any American oil company to do.
Believe it or not, the CEOs and Shareholders are loving this shit and laughing as people argue about the politics of it all....

@HikingMan Not really , nobody is producing. We don’t sell refined crude . What we are getting is foreign crude and the government is at war with the fossil fuel industry. Like Trump did before , America would soon be the chief exporter of oil and gas… that means money and jobs and lower gas prices domestically. Biden’s idiotic policies has the entire world scratching its head. Reverse Biden’s ignorance, clear out lib bureaucrats, build the wall, hunt down the Biden illegals, return law and order. The country will flourish.
HikingMan · 51-55, M
@TexChik You guys will be your own country soon enough anyway, right ?
Because freedom is what you say it is and not really free.
Isn't that how everyone feels now ?
It's all I hear.
I'm not defending Biden.
I'm simply stating the facts of this particular matter.
Seemingly to people that refuse to listen to facts and will just throw out whatever they think is actually happening out there in the real world....
Sorry to have intruded upon the Biden bashing.
But big oil ain't what you hope it is.
Alternative energy isn't as evil as people think it is.
I wish you much luck and cheaper gas prices.

What this graph displays is factual and true. But getting anyone from the Left to acknowledge any of this is a complete waste of time. Since all they ever say is that it's because of Supply and Demand or Economics 101. They cannot see the forest through the trees.
JP1119 · 36-40, M
@dakotaviper I agree, the graph is factual and true; however, unless I’m reading it incorrectly, correct me if I am, the red line shows the average gas price around the whole world, whereas the blue line specifically represents the average gas prices in the US. So starting at the time of the 2020 election, gas prices spiked all around the world. So what’s your point here? Do you mean to imply that Biden getting elected president somehow made gas prices spike all around the world? If so can you please explain to me how that happened? I would really like to know how the US President is so all-powerful he can make gas prices spike everywhere on earth.
dakotaviper · 56-60, M
@JP1119 before Biden was sworn into Office, the USA was the 3rd largest producer and exporter of oil.
Within 24 hours after he was sworn in, Biden ended the Keystone Pipeline, ended Frakking, ended Oil Leases, shut down Oil Platforms in Alaska and the Gulf of Mexico, and began the ending of the USA Oil exporting industry. ALL of which he said that he would never ever do before the November Election of 2020.
Remember this one Fact, the USA is not a member of OPEC.

@dakotaviper Again, I don’t doubt the accuracy of your facts, but what does any of that have to do with the price of tea in China? None of those things has any effect on gas prices in the US. The oil companies feed you this propaganda that has surface plausibility to make them more money, and it works to their advantage that most people don’t understand why the price of gas rises and falls.

@Dshhh You've yet to even made a lucid point. You post two links to two definitions, and add some mindless blathering you think will make you sound intelligent.
But the best part of all is you trying to sell the idea that correlation isn't causation. To make your point, you ironically post global warming videos.
Nevermind how illogical it is for oil companies to price their product so high, that people will go seek alternate energy sources. 🙄

The oil companies and their shareholders see the writing on the wall and would rather break the world than to conduct fair business. They'd rather wring every last dollar out of normal people in a vain attempt to rob everyday people of their last cent in the hopes that desperation will breed obedience.
With a crooked Republican party in control, that's beholden to Oil stock, and a con man in charge of them..., Big Oil stood a chance of maintaining their grip upon humanity for far longer than if progressive environmental types begin to force alternative energies.
This is a concerted and planned attack upon the administration itself in an indirect manner.
There are no reasons for these recent raping's at the pump other than to say that Big Oil wants you to believe that it's policy and not their politics doing this
These recent increases are in no way a part of supply and demand dynamics.

@HikingMan I didn't ask you that. I asked how much do the oil companies make per gallon. And how much does the gov't make in taxes per gallon.
HikingMan · 51-55, M
@BizSuitStacy The federal gas tax has been stuck at 18.4 cents a gallon since 1993 which is well below the profit per gallon for oil companies.
(Not to be mistaken with the Gas Stations themselves)
They make a Preset amount per gallon which tends to hover around 50 cents per gallon.
With most available data broken down by days of sales at best a lot of math goes into the other exact answer.
Perhaps you'd care to share the answer with me ?

@HikingMan 19 cents federal. Up to 75 cents per gallon in some states. Then you have variable county, city and sales tax. In WA state where I live, federal, state, county, city and sales taxes add up to about $1.25 per gallon. We pay just south of $6 for 87 octane. It's harder to unpack, as there is a lot of processing between crude oil to gasoline. Soup to nuts, Exxon makes about $0.08 cents per gallon. Profits may be higher as reported earnings are up, but it's the gov't sticking their hands deeper into your pocket.

Seems issues began well before Putin invaded Ukraine ..
JP1119 · 36-40, M
Your chart seems to indicate that this all started with the 2020 election, which was over two months before Biden was “installed”. How did Biden manage to make gas prices go up even before he became president? It almost seems as though the current spike in gas prices must be due to a lingering effect of Biden’s predecessor…
BizSuitStacy · M
@JP1119 Hmmm...the regression line suggests you might be misinterpreting the data.
