@carpediem First off..., the US never dominated the world-wide market on oil. Not ever in this world's history ! Also, under Trump policies, the American Oil companies continue to ramp up sales into foreign markets. They, and OPEC coordinate pricing and are, like TOYMWYA just said are gouging the world's markets before any Big Switch can be made to infrastructures around the world.
The supply has been steady. Demand has picked up since the world wide lockdowns.
Nothing explains these increases given that the price per barrel is actually $7 less per barrel than is was in 18.... This is greed and fear being used as a weapon to try and make sensible ecological policy seem like a bad thing.

@HikingMan When you remove a portion of world wide supply you have an impact on prices. Supply and demand. The US dominated because we were a huge exporter and had no reason to import. We produced more than we consumed. We’re also the worlds largest consumer. Now, after Biden’s nonsense, we’re on our knees in the Middle East.

@carpediem The US is currently exporting more oil by percentage than at any other time in history. Also..., We did increase imports from OPEC nations last year once we emerged from the lockdowns. But we're still way below by almost 2/3rds of the imports under Trump in 2018.
