Way to go, Okies.

Oklahoma's legislature on Thursday passed a bill that would ban abortions from the stage of "fertilization" and allow private citizens to sue abortion providers who "knowingly" perform or induce an abortion "on a pregnant woman."

True to the Sooner tradition, they're getting to Zero Ground Dark Ages sooner than anyone else.

I have two Daughters, I wish them every freedom in the world.

I am a Catholic, for me, abortion is not the answer. However, I am not the God of my Daughters. They have their lives and choices.

God has given them free will, I must too! If I follow Him/Her, I must!

I, a person of Faith, pray that others too will trust in their God and give their daughters freedom of choice and their sons a sense of responsibility.

Let them live in the Love of their God, not in some human fabrication which serves human love of power.

@Zeusdelight It is so refreshing to hear from a Christian who is not one of those...

If there is no penalty for frivolous litigation, it would be hilarious if people filed nuisance suits against the Governor and anti abortion pastors, just to force them to defend themselves in court.
@Lila15 I was visiting my 90 year old father this week. He expressed the opinion (and I agree) that if a total stranger can block a woman from choosing an abortion, she should be able to sue them for the costs of prenatal care and child support ! 😳
@Lila15 In Texas they set up an anonymous "tip line" where people could leave names of women suspected of seeking abortions and people suspected of helping them travel out of state for abortions.

Needless to say, all the prominent republicans in Texas government, elected, appointed, whatever, found their names and their family names submitted repeatedly to the tip line. folks on Reddit make a sport of it

@ElwoodBlues The ingenuity of people is amazing sometimes!

The brain drain from these states will be interesting to see. Young Oklahoma woman goes to college; would she settle in Oklahoma? Same for any non MAGA young person who has choices..
Fukfacewillie · 56-60, M
@Northwest I think the Founders would be shocked California only has two Senators. "You guys didn't fix that? WTF!"

@independentone
Does Oklahoma have a college, and if so, why?

Why yes, they do. Several in fact, the most prominent of which is the University of Oklahoma in Norman. George Lynn Cross, the University of Oklahoma's president from 1943 to 1968, probably expressed the reason why best. When asked by a member of the Oklahoma State Senate appropriations committee, "Why do you need so much money?" he replied, "I would like to build a University of which the football team could be proud." You can't make this stuff up.

I have not heard ONE syllable in regards to IVF's selective reduction.

What? "Right to Life" has no moral high ground if doctors in swanky uptown medical buildings are profiting from if?

The hypocrisy surrounding this issue is laughable.
@dontbekoi everything those crusty old law makers say is about money

Where is the USA heading? We are the free and brave - who is free, who is brave?????????????????
Graylight · 51-55, F
@Zeusdelight I'm right there with you. 6 months ago, I was like, "Everyone calm down. No one's overturning Roe v Wade; let's not get dramatic."

Now I'm just waiting for the cascade of Handmaid's tales.

Not really, but there's a part of me that hopes these women with unwanted children or the products of rape or incest dump the poor kids on the Governor's or Legislature's doorstep, if they want them so bad, let THEM raise them! 😖 Also hope women start suing the State of Oklahoma for child support!
In an overpopulated planet, this is a death knell for everyone. Well, I suppose the USA has a lot of catching up to do to compete with China and India. lol.

Bring on more babies.
And in that light, it is fare game to impregnate any prolifer you find.

@UreBesFrend Every parasite eventually consumes what it can en masse and the starves or moves on.
The world is in total chaos

@UreBesFrend If America fails, the responsibility will lie squarely on her inhabitants.
@Graylight not this inhabitant. no one listens to people who are correct and that is everywhere in the world. i know my country is ass backwards. children are treated like garbage. minorities are treated like garbage . Women are treated like garbage...and then when these groups start acting like garbage the crusty old white guys say, "see, we let them live here and see how they treat us?"
Graylight · 51-55, F
@DIABLISS All true, but... When's the last time you took a local election seriously? Not just a party line exercise, but really understood the background, histories, qualifications and ambitions of the candidates? If you do, great; most of us never take that kind of time. Those local politicians become regional politicians, and many of them go on to sit over us in the seats of Congress. They become governors and Presidential aides and influencers. And if we treat it like a punchline, a punchline it will be.

Government is an empty, useless machine kept forever at a standstill unless fueled by the very people it serves. We vote and our votes coalesce into collective choice. Every single character we complain about got to his or her spot through US voters. Nothing salacious, nothing secret. They pandered, we listened.

That's what I mean when I say the failure of government is on the people. The people are government; everything else is just machinery.
Similar to a new Texas law…

I don't understand how this stands.

Roe has not be overturned. Roe makes these new bills unconstitutional.

Someone please make it make sense.
