Way to go, Okies.

Oklahoma's legislature on Thursday passed a bill that would ban abortions from the stage of "fertilization" and allow private citizens to sue abortion providers who "knowingly" perform or induce an abortion "on a pregnant woman."

True to the Sooner tradition, they're getting to Zero Ground Dark Ages sooner than anyone else.

The brain drain from these states will be interesting to see. Young Oklahoma woman goes to college; would she settle in Oklahoma? Same for any non MAGA young person who has choices..

@Fukfacewillie This has unfortunately been happening already in places not as historically right wing as Oklahoma such as Ohio, Missouri and Wisconsin. Some of it due to pure economics (big cities are economic powerhouses) but it has been accelerated due to right wing nuts. Looking back, 2010 may have been one of the most devastatingly consequential elections ever.

@luckranger71 And poorer single women staying back with unwanted kids. I would think the pressure on social services would increase and we’re talking red states, so kids neglected, abused, etc.

@Fukfacewillie Yep. I work in admin at human services for a fair sized county in one of those purplish states. The pressure on social workers is immense and the gerrymandered GOP legislature does little to help.

@luckranger71 Talk about burnout.

@Fukfacewillie yep and then when there’s a misstep somewhere the predictable chorus is “look, government doesn’t work”. All by design.
@Fukfacewillie Does Oklahoma have a college, and if so, why?

@Fukfacewillie I wish more of them would stay in Oklahoma. Turns out, it doesn't matter what the state's population is, it still gets two senators.
Fukfacewillie · 56-60, M
@Northwest I think the Founders would be shocked California only has two Senators. "You guys didn't fix that? WTF!"

Why yes, they do. Several in fact, the most prominent of which is the University of Oklahoma in Norman. George Lynn Cross, the University of Oklahoma's president from 1943 to 1968, probably expressed the reason why best. When asked by a member of the Oklahoma State Senate appropriations committee, "Why do you need so much money?" he replied, "I would like to build a University of which the football team could be proud." You can't make this stuff up.
