Will someone please explain the point of posts by liberals calling conservatives idiots and vice versa? ~

ninalanyon · 61-69, T
It's tribal. The words are directed at the other side but they are meant to be heard by their own side. It reinforces their sense of belonging.

@ninalanyon This. 100%. It seems like it's meant to antagonize the other side (which it obviously does if the other side happens to see it), but what it's really meant to be is a rallying call to your "brothers in ideology". It's bonding between highly political, opinionated people.

They are all as childish as each other. I think the topic of politics should be forbidden on websites like this.

@HairbrushDiva Thank you for answering MY QUESTION. Am I butting in here too?
Peaches · F
Misplaced anger.😎The name calling is awful and the administrators should do something about it. I try to avoid political posts because of the way I've been treated.😒👎
RedBaron · M
@helenS I know, right? I sometimes post just for the response by the usual suspects.
Peaches · F
@RedBaron They got so bad that I stopped responding. One guy won't get off me, even over a month later he will start crap about me on this one political thread?!😒So the guy was on one of Nuno's SW updates complaining about everything when I told him I was sick of his harassment!!! The sucker wouldn't say a word like he had earlier yesterday!😜👍Timing is everything.

@RedBaron For example, when some US super patriot praises his beloved country, I ask him why he hates America so much. Responses I get are almost always fun.

[c=4C0073]gives them something to feel important about, .. gives them a sense of belonging, a sense of a mission to live for ..
Their lives could be empty otherwise, and if it is, then it is by their own choice, .. there's much good one can do in this world, but many choose not to do that, thus they get empty.[/c]
Name calling is such a waste of time. Nothing useful or enlightening ever comes from such juvenile drivel. It only proves how shallow and bubbleheaded the author really is.
RupertCornelius · 36-40, M
it's all just a pissing contest.

@HairbrushDiva I crashed in as the OP! Do try to be a bit more observant.

Any more dumb comments? You can be blocked, you know. Silly English type person.

@Grateful4you ... when they stopped playing tic-tac-toe.

i agree with what you say if you are going to make a genuine comment on similar worlds whatever political persuasion fair enough . if you are going to use personal insults because you not do not like what you hear do not bother wasting your time replying [redbaron]
familyfunguy · 56-60, M
You might get accused of making a "both sides" argument, possibly by either side, by highly political people.
TinyViolins · 31-35, M
It's the age-old ad hominem fallacy. I see it as a coping mechanism.

When your ideas and beliefs are under attack, it's considerably easier to dismiss the people attacking you than it is to defend your argument with reason. It's trying to discredit opposing ideas through insults rather than taking the time and thought to discredit an argument through logic or conclusive evidence. Ultimately, it's a way for insecure people to feel secure

Makes each side feel good for having the better opinion. It's all kind of stupid I think
WintaTheAngle · 41-45, M
It’s incredibly tiresome.
