Why are so many Americans complaining about a lack of baby formula? Don't mammals produce milk or some such?

Or perhaps I'm thinking of reptiles...
Doomflower · 36-40, F
It's kind of a perfect microcosm of the country. We can't feed our babies but we'll put you in jail for MURDER if you abort rather than have one you can't feed. Give every potential person a chance to suffer and die as the LORD intended.

TheRascallyOne · 31-35, M
Guess you don't have any kids
CorvusBlackthorne · 46-50, M
@TheRascallyOne We birds do things rather differently.
Breast feeding is for poor people
@Concretedust ahhh hhhhhhh a ahhhhahaha. hhhha aaaa - actually that's true - but also hippies.
FukFaceWillie · 46-50, M
I have two kids -- used wife's mammary glands to feed em. All I had to do was feed my wife.

Her milk had a creamy texture and mild flavor, and came in a few varieties: sweetened, unsweetened, vanilla, and chocolate.
TheRascallyOne · 31-35, M
@CorvusBlackthorne he is the president now so maybe he could attempt to give a shit

@TheRascallyOne Baby formula is getting harder to find.

New York (CNN Business)Stores are having trouble quickly restocking baby formula onto shelves, as serious supply chain problems persist across the globe.

Drug store chain Walgreens (WBA), which operates more than 9,000 locations across the United States, said demand for infant formula is increasing nationwide at the same time that its suppliers are struggling to quickly meet orders.
"[This] may cause temporary and isolated shortages," said Emily Hartwig-Mekstan, spokesperson for Walgreens.
Walgreens said it is frequently posting product availability updates on its websites throughout the day.
"We are restocking stores as quickly as possible and continuing to work diligently with our supplier partners to best meet customer demands," said Hartwig-Mekstan, adding that the retailer is meeting demand.

... some women can't nurse. they medically can't.

... some women are taking medications and it passes into breast milk and can't be shared with a baby.

... some women have a variety of psycho-social biases against breast feeding and elect not to do it. for them it is dirty, sexual, weird.

... some women can't produce enough milk. not every women is a gurnsey.

... some women are addicts. maybe the didn't use during pregnancy. or did. they want to keep their kid clean and safe.

... some women are sick AF. cancer. HEP. whatever.

... we have cultural taboos that make nursing other women's babies not a thing.

... some women have a hard time managing the whole breast feeding thing. socially it's considered weird to breast feed in public. some work places won't afford time and space for it. it's alot of work to pump, store, repeat, for kids in day care.

... some women have a freak show of other shit to deal with. i dunno. post partum depression and not killing themselves. their own medical shit after giving birth. the freakshow of childcare and family that existed before having a baby.

... the demonic food service and medical industries have conned alot of women into believing formula is better.

so. a tub of powder with a little scoop is a thing.
@IAmGoneForever Not to mention all the babies in foster care. And soon there will be more.
redredred · M
Not every woman can breast feed and not every baby will thrive on breast milk alone. A steady supply of infant formula can be a life or death issue for some infants.
Not all women can nurse. And, people adopt.
@ShadowfireTheSarcastic Threatening words, using direct or indirect language are not becoming, either to me or anyone on this site. I don't want to block you or your other accounts forever.
REMsleep · 41-45, F
Yea so I guess women that work all day long can suddenly switch to breast feeding with milk that has probably dried up months ago.

Also so many babies now a days need certain formulas. I had a friend whose baby could only process one type of formula and another friend who just couldn't produce enough milk to feed hers.
Back in the 1890 maybe a wet nurse would be hired but thats not a thing anymore. Its also not sanitary.
@REMsleep My sister takes meds for schizophrenia and was advised not to nurse my niece.
REMsleep · 41-45, F
@bijouxbroussard Yet another fairly common reason. Passing psych meds to newborn. Not good for sure.
justanothername · 51-55, M
Yes generally first time mums do produce breast milk but supply is not always guaranteed although all babies needs to feed so mothers who can’t produce enough will either supplement with formula.
jshm2 · 41-45, M
Because they are stupid and small minded. Can't the military just go steal it from other countries, like they do oil and resources?

Joking aside, it's why there is a furore over the "baby milk storage at the border".
BohemianBoo · 18-21, M
Well what else are we supposed to criticize Biden for? We need something!
@BohemianBoo You're right let's move on to Trump drinking water with 2 hands.
BohemianBoo · 18-21, M
@MarmeeMarch People didn't actually criticize him as a president for that, they just made fun of him because it was funny.
But you do bring up a good point. Look at all of the policy-based criticism Trump got, as opposed to the ridiculous things Republicans have to say about Biden to make it look like he has bad policies. Fox is still talking about Hunter Biden!

Justmeraeagain · 51-55, F
Not all mother's can nurse, some babies are lactose introlante and need formula.
@Justmeraeagain I was. But there was a time period when very few women were nursing. My mother didn’t nurse any of us. And apparently it wasn’t the done thing then.
For those of you who are complaining that not all women produce milk, please be aware of two things. The first thing is, Corvus is a hyperintelligent bird from another planet, and doesn't really understand mammal stuff. The second is, you're arguing with a fictional character.
IAmGoneForever · 56-60, M
@ShadowfireTheSarcastic A lot of people have no idea how women’s bodies work. But I’ll laminate this slap down and keep it in my wallet…
@IAmGoneForever I particularly liked your point that...
... the demonic food service and medical industries have conned alot of women into believing formula is better.
Because that's exactly what's happened.
IAmGoneForever · 56-60, M
@ShadowfireTheSarcastic Yep. And we went to the third world and did this as well.
tacobell · 26-30, M
Americans aren't mammals, we are lizard people
ScarletMoonEmpire · 36-40, F
[c=359E00]i think.. it's one of those 'breastfeeding is not a modern life style' thingy[/c]
When I was a baby I refused milk too soon and had to be fed baby formula.
Liamiam · 51-55, M
I think we had beer 🍺. Must be an Irish thing 🤷‍♂️ @CrazyMusicLover

*Me going over to the baby food isle just to look at the empty shelves*
Liamiam · 51-55, M
Complaining 🤔. I think it’s in there constitution 🤷‍♂️
Changeisgonnacome · 56-60, F
Working women's rights. No way.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
Some people can't nurse. However they can buy formula. I was formula fed.

That said an undocumented immigrant with no money can't buy formula. Seeing as they have no money.
@basilfawlty89 Plenty of U.S citizens with no money can’t buy formula, and supposedly that’s who the right claims to care about. They’ll have to have those babies anyway. The GOP’s making it their business that they’re born—not that they’re fed.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@bijouxbroussard this thread specifically was inspired by some right wing nutjob who complained because some people left formula for undocumented immigrants.
@basilfawlty89 Someone who’s blocked me or has been blocked by me, no doubt.
