Not every woman can breast feed and not every baby will thrive on breast milk alone. A steady supply of infant formula can be a life or death issue for some infants.
It's kind of a perfect microcosm of the country. We can't feed our babies but we'll put you in jail for MURDER if you abort rather than have one you can't feed. Give every potential person a chance to suffer and die as the LORD intended.
Yes generally first time mums do produce breast milk but supply is not always guaranteed although all babies needs to feed so mothers who can’t produce enough will either supplement with formula.
@MarmeeMarch People didn't actually criticize him as a president for that, they just made fun of him because it was funny. But you do bring up a good point. Look at all of the policy-based criticism Trump got, as opposed to the ridiculous things Republicans have to say about Biden to make it look like he has bad policies. Fox is still talking about Hunter Biden!
@Justmeraeagain I was. But there was a time period when very few women were nursing. My mother didn’t nurse any of us. And apparently it wasn’t the done thing then.
@bijouxbroussard That was mostly due to the baby formula companies marketing to women that baby formula was more advanced and better somehow. I remb when my mom had my little sister, I was 12 and she breastfed. I was honestly embarrassed and I thought that breastfeeding was for uneducated people and that formula was better. Thats what my little friends said too. My mom had to educate me but it took a long time for me to believe her mostly because I was embarrassed.
New York (CNN Business)Stores are having trouble quickly restocking baby formula onto shelves, as serious supply chain problems persist across the globe.
Drug store chain Walgreens (WBA), which operates more than 9,000 locations across the United States, said demand for infant formula is increasing nationwide at the same time that its suppliers are struggling to quickly meet orders. "[This] may cause temporary and isolated shortages," said Emily Hartwig-Mekstan, spokesperson for Walgreens. Walgreens said it is frequently posting product availability updates on its websites throughout the day. "We are restocking stores as quickly as possible and continuing to work diligently with our supplier partners to best meet customer demands," said Hartwig-Mekstan, adding that the retailer is meeting demand.
Yea so I guess women that work all day long can suddenly switch to breast feeding with milk that has probably dried up months ago.
Also so many babies now a days need certain formulas. I had a friend whose baby could only process one type of formula and another friend who just couldn't produce enough milk to feed hers. Back in the 1890 maybe a wet nurse would be hired but thats not a thing anymore. Its also not sanitary.
@basilfawlty89 Plenty of U.S citizens with no money can’t buy formula, and supposedly that’s who the right claims to care about. They’ll have to have those babies anyway. The GOP’s making it their business that they’re born—not that they’re fed.
@bijouxbroussard this thread specifically was inspired by some right wing nutjob who complained because some people left formula for undocumented immigrants.
For those of you who are complaining that not all women produce milk, please be aware of two things. The first thing is, Corvus is a hyperintelligent bird from another planet, and doesn't really understand mammal stuff. The second is, you're arguing with a fictional character.
