chemical weapons

today ukraine have accused russia of using chemical weapons in maripol again ukrainian troops and civilians . now what i do not understand and get is if russian troops have withdrawn from this part of ukraine why has it only come to light now .i am not suggesting this story has been fabricated and iwould not put it past the little gremlin in the kremlin to order there use as they have been used in other countries of europe .

Mariupol is in the Southeast part of Ukraine, along the Sea of Azov. The Russians have not pulled out and are in fact reinforcing the area with units that pulled out from Kiev that is near the Northern central part of Ukraine near the border with Belarus.

Mariupol is in the land corridor that the Russians are trying to establish from the Crimea to the Donetsk/Luhansk area in the far east of the country. Mariupol is the city where the mayor says they have over 10,000 civilians killed. It has been cut off and under siege since the beginning of the war and has been reduced to near rubble by Russian artillery, rocket and missile fire.

The use of chemical weapons mixed with tear gas has been alleged as well as the use of white phosphorus (WP) weapons. There is some disagreement on whether Tear gas and WP are considered chemical weapons...one is a common riot control agent and WP was in common use in WWII/Korea and many other conflicts since.

Ukraine is a large country with unfamiliar names to most Americans. Looking at one of the many maps with illustrations of the combat that is going on would go a long way to understanding what is going on.

@bowman81 Expect the new guy, Gen. Alexander Dvornikov, to do what he did in Syria, he engaged many thousands of air strikes, unguided bombs, cluster bombs, incendiaries similar to white phosphorus and thermobaric weapons. By the end of September 2017, Russian airstrikes killed around 5,703 civilians, about a quarter of them children. Unless Ukraine can defend against these bombings they have a hard painful road ahead of them. They need interceptor aircraft and sophisticated Surface-to-Air Systems to stop it.
Mariupol doesn’t really exist anymore...but Ukraine gaining control of it seems key to ending the war.
Wouldn’t surprise me if Putin dropped a nuke on it..
May 9th appears to be a key date.. put that down as a possible end to the war.
I have something on my threads that suggests Russian troops don’t have another month of fighting left in them.
@windinhishair I think so too...it is a catch 22 for the Russian soldiers...if they refuse to fight they will be killed by their own side.
And if they surrender they fear being returned to Russia..
One soldier is reported to have said after he surrendered that his funeral had already been arranged in Russia.
The blame for this lies with one man
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@TheSirfurryanimalWales It is definitely a catch-22. We need to remember that for the most part average Russian soldiers and average Russians want nothing to do with this, if they know what is really going on.
@windinhishair indeed....
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
Did the Russians-- under the new General who's taking over the Ukraine invasion -- use chemical weapons in Syria to kill civilian populations in a scorched earth policy? Seems I heard something about that when the guy go the new assignment.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@ChipmunkErnie General Alexander Dvornikov was appointed the lead in the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Yes, he did kill civilians in Syria using chemical weapons and was known for his brutality. You can bet you will see an escalation in brutality in the areas of Ukraine Russia is still targeting at the moment.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@windinhishair I believe his nickname is "The Butcher of Syria"? Well, the Ukrainians have taken out a couple of Russian generals already, so we can hope....
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@ChipmunkErnie Yes, I have heard that.
KiwiBird · 36-40, F
The withdrawal of russian troops would be exactly why chemical weapons are now being deployed. (No harm to russian forces)
Ryannnnnn · 31-35, M
I mean it doesn't matter in terms of garnering support for the Ukrainians, soldiers are raping mothers and murdering children. Some people are evil beyond comprehension, I hope they get whats coming to them. Fucking sick bastards, hope they hang Putin in the square.
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
If they do that gives NATO the right to launch cruise missiles on Russian forces.
smiler2012 · 56-60
@Tastyfrzz very risky move as that would esculate the whole thing into a war in europe and the terrible consequences it would lead too .granted the gremlin in the kremlin must be punished for such a hideous crime and certainly be held accountable for war crimes
@Tastyfrzz Not really. NATO doesn't care that much unless there's benefits for them like Libya for example.
SirAhmed · 31-35, M
Is what Putin doing bad ? Yes
Should I really care ? Nope
Since 2013 Russian troops bombed the living shit out of Syria used chemical weapons and no one ever made a big deal out of it so why now?
#DoubleStandards
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@SirAhmed You have a valid point, but we should still care about what is happening in Ukraine now. We should have cared more about Syria, absolutely, and yes, it is a double standard.
Northwest · M
Putin has been using low-grade chemical weapons in Syria, for years. I would not put it past him to use them in this conflict.

As to why it's only coming to light now, when should it come to light?
windinhishair · 61-69, M
The Mayor of Mariopul says that Russia has killed over 10,000 civilians in his city alone, and more are dying by the day. If that isn't a war crime, what is?
SW-User
The Ukrainians are liars dont take what they say as facts they be fabricating shit to get more empathy n help from the world
Subsumedpat · 36-40, M
@SW-User The Ukraine is one of the most corrupt nations on the planet though not as corrupt as they were a few years ago. Still what the Russians are doing is horrible and the world should punish them for it. We don't have to go to war but we should not sell or buy more than we have to from Russia.
He did it before in Aleppo. He shouldn't be allowed to use them ever again..
