The bottom line as to why we are not helping Ukraine is: The U.S. and NATO are cowards and are afraid to face Russia.

Ukraine is not a member of NATO - imho if it were Putin would never have attacked.

If NATO no weighs in what would happen? All conjecture but. a) NATO is then seen as the rescuer of all nations who are bullied by Russia, or China, or whoever? b) All NATO is then a target for Russia - who knows where that'll end but obviously the Baltic states couldn't resist Russian aggression, Poland and Norway both have land borders with Russian and/or Belarus (who is militarily aligned with Russia in the CSTO). Almost instantly then NATO would be fighting in Ukraine, Poland, Norway, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia - to start with. That would be a fast route to WW3, 72 hours maximum and I would expect Russia to launch long range attacks on all European nations in NATO.

Sadly - whilst it feels intrinsically the wrong thing - NATO cannot directly intervene as it will so quickly escalate. Putin might be a megalomaniac, possibly psychotic but he isn't mad that's why he's invaded now before Ukraine becomes a NATO or EU member.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow okay, now i challenge you to point out exactly where I insulted you specifically.

I threw a stone into a pack of dogs. If you yelped then that must mean...
@Eternity I am done. Have fun playing with yourself.

This presidency is very weak, which just makes us a target.
Biden should have stepped in before this got started by Putin. Now it is too late to do anything and he would be highly unwise to try. He's merely reacting versus acting.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@SW-User It was started by Putin 25 years ago.
beckyromero · 36-40, F
@SW-User

Putin doesn't care about sanctions. He already made that calculation.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@beckyromero Yeah, but there still is some satisfaction in knowing they are being applied.
Keepitsimple · 51-55, F
I don’t think Joe Biden is knowledgeable enough to determine whether or not the US should go to war. We have too many big things going on with an inept president. He would only create more chaos and have us bombed if he gets involved.
eMortal · M
Wall Street determines whether we go to war or not. Wall Street owns the democrats. @Keepitsimple
Only a fool.......people who think like you do.........wants a WWIII. Ukraine is the center of the old Soviet Union. It was the where the capital of the U.S.S.R. was. The people speak Russian....spend Russian rubles......eat Russian food. They are NOT a member of NATO for a reason.........they never asked to be.

If you and fools like you are dying to have a war.......grab ur 2nd Amendment rights and head over there.
irishmolly72 · 56-60, F
@anythingoes477 He can be killed with 1,000 cuts. Just watch.
irishmolly72 · 56-60, F
@Lanyx Russia was nice enough to give them the Holodomor however.
@irishmolly72 So your solution is..........WE should invade a sovereign nation to "help them"...............instead of letting Russia invade them to "help them"? Right?

Ukraine has NEVER asked to be in NATO. Ever......not once. But now they want NATO protection?? I'm not for Russia invading anyone..anytime......but if we invade Ukraine.....the original capital of the U.S.S.R........who has NEVER asked to be in NATO....then we are the invaders. And that is Putin's excuse for WWIII. What we "can't allow and what we "better not even consider" is worlds apart. Screaming for us to invade Ukraine...is demanding millions of deaths in another world war. Think.
i think it will be like the 6 day war and over fast and urkraine will be back under russian control. rememger he just tested his hyper missile just a few days ago. this will be a short war.

[image deleted][image deleted][image deleted]
and we are behind russia in this tech. by years.
@markansas There is a big big difference though. Russia only has access to about 180k soldiers.

Back when Ukraine was part of the USSR the airborne division alone was bigger than that.
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow time will tell and the ones suffering will be the worker class . rebuilding the powerplants the cities ect . i feel for them and yet i myself can do nothing but watch. kinda sad to see. i hope it does not bring back the cold war or even worse . this is what they are going threw now.
@markansas Sadly this is the cost of every war in history. But Russia simply doesn't have the numbers. Ukraine has a similar population to Iraq and the US has 10k more troops to occupy with and still failed after 15 years trying. It just isn't an option. It also doesn't fit with their most recent military operations.
GrinNude · 61-69, C
Things have changed in the last 24 hours. Last night Biden pledged to Zelensky that we would continue to supply Stinger and Javelin missles to Ukraine in spite of the airspace being contested. And today Germany announced a major foreign policy shift. It would now also supply Ukraine with German made Javelin and Stinger missiles and also remove restrictions on supplies that were sold to other European nations so that they can give theirs to Ukraine. And removing Russian Banks from the Swift system should be very effective. I believe this will cause Putin to retaliate against the West. They may disable our banking system as best they can. I took some cash out of the bank today. I'm not relying on my credit cards or ATM card to continue functioning during this time of cyber warfare. Hope for the best. Prepare for the worst. Pray for Ukraine and send ammo.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@GrinNude Hopefully, you don't start hoarding.
GrinNude · 61-69, C
@MarkPaul I won't. LOL.
Graylight · 51-55, F
Oh, is that what it's all about? And here I've been listening to silliness from the likes of the Joint Chief of Staff, the US President, NATO policy and the rest of the world.

It's Ukraine's land, it's no surprise Ukraine will defend it. Again, and for the millionth time for the troglodytes: We, along with all NATO countries, may not enter Ukrainian territory. We're set up all the way around the country, but this is not our war. Yet.

You don't see Syrians coming in to help us sort out SCOTUS problems, do you? Stop looking out your window and believing it shows you the world.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@Graylight You should be listening to sloppy Steve Bannon, Tucker Carlson, Marsha Blackburn, and Marjorie Taylor-Greene like "the base" does. Don't you see how well informed they are?
eMortal · M
No. If Russia closes the gas pipelines, Germany and France to name a few will be in deep freeze. Second, Russia is one of Europe’s best business partner. Sanctions against them hurts NATO nations as well.
3rd Russia is the world’s 2nd is oil reserves, they really can make our lives a living hell even if it hurts them too.
It’s like one of those family member you can’t punish because it’s gonna hurt you too 😄
Graylight · 51-55, F
@eMortal Russia exports around 4-5 million barrels per day (bpd) of crude and another 2-3 million bpd of refined products. China, the European Union, South Korea, India and Japan are its main buyers. You'll notice the US isn't even on the list.

And it's not hurting us to help Europe at all.

January saw most LNG shipped to Europe from U.S.

The U.S. became Europe’s largest source of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in 2021, accounting for 26% of all LNG imported by European Union member countries.

In January 2022, the United States supplied more than half of all LNG imports into Europe for the month.

Exports of LNG from the United States to EU-27 and the UK increased from 3.4 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) in November 2021 to 6.5 Bcf/d in January 2022—the most LNG shipped to Europe from the United States on a monthly basis to date, according to the U.S. Department of Energy’s LNG Monthly reports and our own estimates, which are based on LNG shipping data.

If prices go up at our pumps, you can thank capitalism.
eMortal · M
@Graylight The US LNG is more likely expensive to Europeans.
beckyromero · 36-40, F
You shouldn't need to be a nuclear scientist to figure out the reason the U.S. and NATO aren't going to fight Russia over Ukraine.

irishmolly72 · 56-60, F
There is no invasion of Ukraine. They are just undocumented Russian soldiers.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
If the USA and NATO militarily help Ukraine directly, then literally everyone is part of NATO, even non-members. That being said, the USA and NATO are indirectly supplying military equipment, money, and training which is no small gift of support. And, unlike Afghanistan, the Ukrainians are valiantly stepping up to fight their battle with those trying to occupy their homeland.
Nuclear Weapons will do that unfortunately.
JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
@JonLosAngeles66 He will use them either way and he will continue to do as he wishes by using nukes as a threat because we are showing him it works well.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
Protecting Ukraine doesn't serve anyone else's national interest. Other than the money laundering operation that has been going on there for decades there really is nothing there worth fighting for.
FeetAreFantastic · 41-45, M
Its not coward. Its just plain sensible. Going to war against Russia means this will blow up to a full scale WW3, quite possibly nuclear. Then there would be only losers. Millions of them!
Eternity · 26-30, M
@FeetAreFantastic right? All these fat old fuckers telling the young and able to go fight and die. What a load of shit.

YOU roll your gastric bypass geriatric fucking asses out there and fight if it's so God damned worth it then!
Quetzalcoatlus · 46-50, M
Ukraine is not in the NATO alliance. We have no obligation to intervene with military action. As soon as Putin steps one foot in a NATO country you’ll have yourself a world war..
irishmolly72 · 56-60, F
I disagree. There are many deeply moral people who have been forced to stare into the abyss because of Putin. They are doing the best they can.
I'd be willing to bet you need to wear a bump cap just to walk thru your house. And God help us.....you vote.😢
GrinNude · 61-69, C
@GrinNude [image]
Quimliqer · 70-79, M
No, the Ukraine is not in NATO, otherwise they would have an obligation to stand on the border.
doong · 56-60, M
It's not coward. It's just a matter of political / economical calculation.
Eternity · 26-30, M
I hope you plan to lead the charge on the front lines yourself since you feel that way...
Ukraine is not a NATO member and nobody wants a new world war over this.
[image deleted][image deleted]they are doing something. just too much fake stories out there
Keepitsimple · 51-55, F
Whoever downvoted can suck it. Coward.
JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
We are weak.

We said never again and here we are watching people fight for their lives against a psychopath.
