We have several thank yous to make.
I'd like to thank the grifters and con artists who got very rich off of this movement through fake gofundmes and sucking in an insane amount of foreign money.
I'd like to thank the political spin doctors for creating this myth of a white libertarian trucker fighting the government when 90% of truckers are vaccinated and a hell of a lot of them aren't white.
I'd like to thank the Canadian police forces (municipal and RCMP) for proving that extreme escalation of force is required against Indigenous protesters while right wing protesters get the red carpet.
I'd like to thank Justin Trudeau for once again proving Canada is only a few steps away from a police state.
I'd like to thank all the Nazis who integrated themselves into the movement, were partially responsible for leading it, and all the people who happily welcomed them to the cause. Without them we wouldn't know how this shit really works.
And finally I'd like to thank the people of Ottawa for peaceful counterprotest and not just beating the protesters to death with frying pans like everyone wanted to.

@swirlie I think its more likely we have different opinions about a political event and you're mad that I don't share yours.

With moves like this, the truckers destroyed whatever support they once had.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow I hope that happens, we teach kids to be out of the road for a reason, they should get it for child endangerment.

@SatanBurger
Did they really put kids on a busy highway ...
I wasn't there, so I can't say for sure exactly what happened, but there's no good interpretation of this.
As far as I can tell, the pictures originated as tweets among the truckers (*). I assume this is a highway ramp on the Canadian side to the Ambassador bridge to the US (curves, 50mph sign). I assume that farther along, the bridge was blocked by truckers, and most traffic diverted somewhere else. So I assume the most likely traffic along the bridge would have been police headed to the truckers.
That doesn't help anything. Telling kids its OK to stop police cars with lights & sirens is still an awful lesson. Every bit as bad as telling kids its OK to stand in the middle of a multi-lane highway.
(*) I used google image search to look for the origins of the images. It's almost all on twitter, facebook, & reddit; has not been picked up by commercial media. I assume that's because commercial media can't publish the image without copyright permission, and the rights are murky here. I think the images are legitimate because the second image captures who was tweeting it about. Another user here found one of the original tweets and responded to it; that says it's legit.

We can all be thankful this ended relatively peacefully. The protesters had the right to protest, they didn't have the right to hold the City and Citizens of Ottawa hostage in a siege for 3 weeks. To those who complain of "Tyranny" they might want to take a good long look at what a real Democracy is, the bad elements in the protest were even able to wave their Nazi and Confederate flags, till they got shamed into taking them down. If ever anyone even tried to stand on the "Grave of the Unknown Soldier" let alone dance on it in the good ole USA, things would have ended very badly for them. Canada remains one of the best Democracies in the Western World!
spjennifer · 56-60, T
@Pikachu That being said, had the Police acted quickly everyone would have been screaming "Tyranny"! and support for the protesters might have increased. This way, pretty much everyone was fed up with them by the time action was taken and they'd shown their true colours.
spjennifer · 56-60, T
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Yeah, I suspect Canada hasn't seen the end of protests but I do suspect they will get much the same treatment if they persist in their siege attempts. It will be interesting to see if PM Trudeau's popularity goes up or down with all of this though...
@spjennifer True. As ive said, im pretty happy with how it all shook out.
PicturesOfABetterTomorrow · 41-45, M
This was well handled. The nutjobs running it wanted something like the crackdown at the G20/G8 in Toronto or the Summit of the Americas in Quebec city. Something they could use for propaganda and recruiting for years.
Instead this will likely be forgotten in 12 to 16 months.

PM Trudeau today revoked the Emergencies Act stating it was no longer necessary. Am waiting for the Right's heads to explode, calling the invocation unnecessary, excessive use of force etc. Interesting that when he invoked the Act, he stated then that it would be revoked when no longer necessary and that's exactly what he's done. 5 Days total to clear out the illegal siege of the City of Ottawa, good job by the various Police forces to keep it non-violent and by the PM for doing what he said he would do.
@spjennifer
Yeah i just keep being more and more pleased with how this whole trucker protest was taken care of.

Consequences... I didn't think you liked consequences, who knew? 🙂
@canusernamebemyusername
lol exactly, right?
Here they are actively criticizing the government and Trudeau personally...and yet they remain free to do so with no consequences.
For weeks the protestors did what they wanted with no consequences but as soon as the government actually responds to the threat, it's all "fascism! Gestapo! Oppression!"

@Pikachu Its Gazpacho😡 lol
BackyardShaman · 61-69, M
I would have rather the military and police open fire on them, kill a few and detain the rest, destroy their vehicles.
@BackyardShaman another sociopathic brown shirt. Can we shoot you instead. Your face would look pretty half blown off. That should do the world a favour.

I love how the protesters actually think they're being held hostage "in their own city," while everyone is still going to grocery stores, going to work and living life. Lol. That's kind of funny actually.
Like Covid, the Canadian truckers’ convoy actions are spreading…beyond Canada’s borders. We’re getting ready for ours here.
Nanoose · 61-69, M
@soar2newhighs I watched a news clip about a trucker that had spent a night in jail. A couple of weeks ago he was claiming that he would stay there and continue protesting for years if he had to. But after spending one night in jail he came out crying that he just wanted to go home. Cheers!
@Nanoose Any reason why he was crying? Or are we left to ponder that?

Yeah, I was pleased with the lack of violence as well, but this is Canada we’re talking about, America’s goody two-shoes younger brother 😁
@SW-User
And proud of it lol

Did the Truckers get the Pillows that Mike Lindell threatened to drop on them ?
spjennifer · 56-60, T
@MissTaken Nope, think he took them back to Minnesota as no one in Canada wanted them and he was barred from entering.

Ottawa is boring again.

Great photos except the F..k Trudeau flag. When I saw that, I lost respect. I don't care how much you dislike Trudeau, vulgar words are not warranted. It shows the minute intelligence of that individual and sadly reflects my view of the whole situation. They, the organizers, should have told that dude to take it down and show a bit of respect. That way, the respect would probably be returned. Anyway, that's my opinion.
