Well it looks like the Trucker Protest in Ottawa is over. Most of the protestors left on their own and the rest were pushed out by police.

I for one am glad to see an end to the occupation and even gladder to see that it happened with virtually no violence from either side.
Well done.
When the protest stopped being a party and they were faced with actual consequences for their actions, most of the protestors lost their stomach for the "freedom" convoy.
Ottawa residents can stop being imprisoned in their own city and people can get back to work.

We have several thank yous to make.

I'd like to thank the grifters and con artists who got very rich off of this movement through fake gofundmes and sucking in an insane amount of foreign money.

I'd like to thank the political spin doctors for creating this myth of a white libertarian trucker fighting the government when 90% of truckers are vaccinated and a hell of a lot of them aren't white.

I'd like to thank the Canadian police forces (municipal and RCMP) for proving that extreme escalation of force is required against Indigenous protesters while right wing protesters get the red carpet.

I'd like to thank Justin Trudeau for once again proving Canada is only a few steps away from a police state.

I'd like to thank all the Nazis who integrated themselves into the movement, were partially responsible for leading it, and all the people who happily welcomed them to the cause. Without them we wouldn't know how this shit really works.

And finally I'd like to thank the people of Ottawa for peaceful counterprotest and not just beating the protesters to death with frying pans like everyone wanted to.
@CountScrofula

Generally speaking, i'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

@Pikachu Considering there could have been a lot of injuries or deaths it could have been a lot worse but Jesus Christ what an infuriating run of events.
@CountScrofula

It got pretty stupid but yeah, i'm actually surprised it didn't erupt into violence.
I guess the protestors were all talk.

@Pikachu These right wing movements involve a lot of magical thinking about getting a bunch of guns and fighting some unnamed menace but they don't ACTUALLY want that. They just want the fantasy and to haul guns around and look impressive. Thank God.

Otherwise the BLM protests would have been a bloodbath rather than just Rittenhouse. We may still see that kind of sectarian violence in the future since this is only getting worse, but right now it's a lot of posturing.

Same deal with the capitol storming. They had no idea what to do once they got there.

@CountScrofula Yeah thankfully they're more interested in boasting than in actually acting in violence when the rubber hits the road.

@Pikachu there was violence on behalf of the police. They trampled an old lady on purpose. If you support that then you’re a piece of shit.
@AwakeningConfession221122

Well let's walk that back a bit and not let emotions cause us to overstate what occurred or attribute malicious intent unduly.

The policed broke up the protester line using mounted officers and as they pushed through we have video recording that this woman was knocked down. Sadly she was probably not able to quickly get out of the way due to the crowd and her possibly limited mobility.
There is, however, no evidence either filmed or reported which suggests that the police deliberately rode her down or trampled her.
She is currently recovering in hospital with a broken collar bone.

I do support the police ending the occupation of our nation's capital and while i am not happy that this woman was hurt, i am happy that her case is an exception and not the rule in ending these protests.
I'm also happy that the SIU will be investigating to see if there was undue force or malicious intent on the part of the officers.

If that makes me a piece of shit then so be it. I'm just glad that there was such limited violence and injury in a situation which has been so emotionally charged.

@AwakeningConfession221122 The protesters were in Ottawa for like two full weeks before the police got vicious and you look at any other protest movement they do that shit day one.

It sucks and I hate cops.

@swirlie I think its more likely we have different opinions about a political event and you're mad that I don't share yours.
