Biden only won 17% of the counties, thats is the lowest any president ever had.

here is a anylysis of the theoretical lowest number of counties needed to win... which would mean in theory you could become president with only winning 11, not percent but plain eleven counties in the whole USA and still end up being president. of course these numbers are driven to the max... but sure makes you love a voteing system based on 18th century circumstances... washington and his crew would be so mad that we still use this in modern times when we could do so much better.

but doubt the democrats will change it.. after all they won with 17% counties.. and the republicans love the electoral college... well not trump.. according to his tweets he hates the electoral college
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
He used to love (L-O-V-E) the electoral college. I wonder what happened...
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@MarkPaul Is that 200 dog years?
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@windinhishair Ha... as fate will prove it, I think he must have meant prison years... 200 years to life.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@MarkPaul It could well be when you add up all the crimes and add their sentences together.
if that is where the vast majority of the people live I don't seriously see a problem.

Land should not vote, only people should. It should not matter where you live ,your vote should have the same impact.
AngelofFail · 26-30, F
@BetweenKittensandRiots t is a problem in that way that those 11 counties are in no way representive of the whole population and it shows how completely flawed a voting system from the 18th century is in the 21str century
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@AngelofFail what? What are you saying? Are you implying that a majority is not a majority? WTF? The electoral college sets up the situation where a minority of the population determines who the president of the majority is! Too many times in the past 50 years, we have ended up with someone in the WH who LOST the popular vote but managed to win the college. Again, that resulted in the minority of the country determining the direction of the country over the desires over the majority.

While we are at it, the archaic senate rules allow one man, elected solely by citizens of his/her state to determine the fate of legislation passed in the "people's house," or presidential appointments regardless of what the others in the senate think, or citizens of the country might want! Is that even sane?
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
I know it isn't going to happen with the republicans still controlling so many state legislations, but, why not have the popular vote decide? Originally US Senators were not elected by the popular vote, that was changed. Having so many presidents "elected," with less than the popular vote is disgracefully outdated, and unneeded.
AngelofFail · 26-30, F
@samueltyler2 just havign a popular vote is a step in the right direction... but that way we only swich from 18th century to 20th century tech...

we can have a much more sophisticated election system that would crack up the 2 party system and allow for fringe personalities with a vision to end up as president. there could be coalitions and blocks formed on actual topics and not where you have to buy the full package...

right now if you think guns and abortions are both fundamental rights to be protected you are in a pickle
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@AngelofFail I absolutely agree. A third party now has no chance of success but ruins the potential for one of the other candidates. A rank order system attached to a popular vote would really be more of a true vote which equalized every person's vote value.
Well, LA county alone has 11 million people and has a larger population than 43 states.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
And that 17% of counties represent 71% of the nations economic output.

At some point ruralcels really stopped pulling their weight.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@QuixoticSoul Trump Territories, like him, are takers. The blue areas drive the economy which the red counties drain.
@windinhishair i am for the bluexit. They spit on us. They scream and hollar about handouts and then take them and vote for a party that advocates cutting them. So i have a modest proposal. Lets end the american experiment and go our own way. From the revolution on to get social security foodstampss or medicare or
Medicaid youd have to vote Democratic and prove you did. No more handouts for fucking republicans. Fuck em. Let em starve.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@BetweenKittensandRiots that was tried once, that didn't go well.
Northwest · M
There's a context missing here, a very important one. The reddest county in my state has a few hundred residents and even less voters, and there are hundreds of these around the country.

It makes a pretty red picture, but it's meaningless. Counties also do not determine the electoral college for states.

That aside, I do think we should move away from the electoral college system.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
Fortunately number of counties won is not an electoral criterion. If it was, the 93 people in Loving County, Texas would have the same voting strength as the 11 million in LA County, California.
Graylight · 51-55, F
Doesn't really matter, though, does it?
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@Graylight Not in the least.
OggggO · 36-40, M
Many counties in this country, particularly in the Great Plains and Rockies, are practically empty, though.
Allelse · 36-40, M
Don't worry your empty little head, I'm becoming president and I'm going to split your idiotic little country in two. And one half is not allowed to go near the other, since neither side can get on.
Archtiger · 31-35, M
@Allelse This was comical.
DragonFruit · 61-69, M
According to his tweets he hates the Electoral College???!!!
The only reason he was ever President at all is because of the Electoral College.
AngelofFail · 26-30, F
@DragonFruit

you know how he is... he is to stupid to understand any consequences

Electoral college is clung to by republican politicians. Scores of millions of americans will vote for republicans no matter what. Americans are stuck on stupid. It's who we proudly are. Nothing will change or get better. This mess we've created since we got to this continent is who we are. Genocide of native americans and slaves of African americans wasn't an innocent mistake. It's who we are. Scum of the earth. And it's never going to change as long as racist redneck white trash americans dutifully vote and they are all around you fucking everywhere..
