Are there certain members you won't talk to about politics?

I just told my mom I dont like either of our candidates and it almost turned into a full blown argument. She's heated I don't like her candidate.

Like I'm allowed to have my opinion.

You are indeed. Don't let people bully you into buying their narrative. They are free to feel how they feel, as are you. You don't have to pick a side if you think that both sides are shit. Sometimes you do have to pick between the lesser of two evils when the result will have major consequences for you, but the fact is that for many in the middle classes the difference between choice A and choice B makes little difference. Life goes on much the same either way.

You definitely are allowed to have an opinion and like any candidates you please. The system is designed to weigh all of our opinions in the vote. It's sad that you can't have a conversation with her. There must be good points about her choice that you may not know about, and your choice may have have good points that she doesn't know about. Even if neither of you changes the other's mind, it's a healthy discussion to discuss issues.

I don't talk to older family members about it because they're batshit insane. I'll argue with my aunt and uncle about it though, because while I know I can't possible convince them, I could influence their kids to question their opinions moving forward.

I only talk politics with those who can conduct themselves appropriately.

Aww two party democracy doesn’t work when neither candidate is especially liked at all
QuietEd2019 · 31-35, M
@joe438 yeah exactly at least in U.K. we have a choice in most constituencies of at least 5-6 different parties 3 main parties and a selection of minor parties/ independents and manifestos where we can vote on which aligns closest with what would want - even if a politician wins in a location, which goes on to hold overall majority they sometimes pay attention to the numbers voting for other parties to temper their policies to be palatable to all population. Sometimes doesn’t work like manifesto in 2015 having referendum assuming Conservatives would compromise with a coalition government but had majority.

@QuietEd2019 I can remember when politicians from different parties in the U.S. worked together to do the job they were elected to do. You have to go back quite way in U.S. history to see that. I'd be fine with either party in charge here if I had *any* confidence that the group would give/take and discuss issues. They won't, so we have no choice but to fight over who gets to be in charge. No matter who that is, half of the country will be unrepresented.

@joe438 yeah I noticed that whichever party is in power the other party dedicated itself to undermining everything

I would talk only to my hub or daughter and a few friends online. But never in the questions with people on here. They get too hostile for me.

Yes you are. But most times it just causes problems so I'm careful what I talk about with family.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
Yes you are. Yet sometimes it others won't understand your opinion. And not just on politics. It can go to any number of things.

Flat earthers are just as opinionated and fanatical sadly
Yes well Im allowed to have my opinion that the opinions of some other people are extremely toxic.
