Why have other countries handled COVID so much better than the US?

SW-User
Republicans. They will not be satisfied until this country and the world is beyond saving. Then will blame it on Democrats and God's will..
Elessar · 26-30, M
@SW-User Republicans and their worldwide counterparts.

America has three seperate problems all in larger quantities than many other countries. Its the combination of ALL THREE that have bought America to this unenviable place in Covid history.
First it has a leadership not only in denial of the Virus, but actively promoting its spread and discounting its severity.
Second it has multiple layers of government more interestes in seeing business continue than taking the necessary steps to stop the spread, so the dollar wins over lives officially.
Third, a population with a large cohort that feels their freedom and rights to do as they see fit makes them stronger than any disease and therefore immune..
If any ONE of those were not true, America would be in a much better position. And now its out there in the community, its too late to change a thing.😷
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Spoiledbrat Apart from contributing to the second problem that would have done nothing to fight the actual spread of the bug. Yes. The poverty and unemployment is a problem that needs tackling. But money isnt the cure.😷
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@whowasthatmaskedman yes, here in New Zealand we have:

1. excellent leadership which listened to the best scientific advice (and continues to adapt as that advice becomes even more informed). We went hard and we went early, and we kept our foot firmly on the throat of covid-19 (and continue to do so)

2. universal healthcare as part of our healthcare system (as opposed to America’s healthcare business)

3.a cohesive and purposeful population (our Team of Five Million)
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@newjaninev2 Exactly.. If we could steal your PM we would, believe me. But Scummo started well and fast and we have a similar health care approach and a larger but focused population.. Even with a few misteps we have held the line on this thing.. It CAN be done.😷

Because other countries dont have a lying criminal sack of shit for a president
Loretta78 · 46-50, F
@TJNewton BA! 👍 🥇
smiler2012 · 56-60
simple really have a leader who listens to experts rather than show is arrogance and contempt towards them on there advice @pikachu
United States has an idiot for a President. Trump's entire philosophy is:

"If you do nothing, you do nothing wrong".

Sure didn't work out for him regarding Covid-19
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@independentone had. He left in 2016.
@MasterLee Yet Covid is completely on Trump
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@independentone nah, china.
Adaydreambeliever · 56-60, F
Yep, sadly... The US listened to an idiot who is known to be the single biggest source of information - Trump. He talks out of his backside and really doesn't have a clue.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
There really are multiple reasons. The US was born out of the spirit of individualism. Every attempt to regulate perceived freedoms in a way as to protect anyone has been extremely difficult. This attitude was encouraged by some of the leaders of the country making the arrival of the virus a near "perfect storm." This resulted in the politicalization and denial of science.

NZ a island nation,easy to close borders & theres more sheep than people living there
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@Tres13
easy to close borders
But we didn’t initially close our borders.

They’re definitely closed now, to keep out infection from less-aware countries such as Brazil, India, the United States, and Uzbekistan

There’s a mandatory 14-day quarantine
126.5 million (2018) Population of japan
4.886 million (2018) Population of New Zealond @newjaninev2
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@Spoiledbrat Indicating that the Japanese are 26 times fonder of sex. 😂
MasterLee · 56-60, M
Except they didn't handle it.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@newjaninev2 reports state they had the same re-occurrance as the rest of the world.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@MasterLee lol! I assume that ‘reports’ meant the Mango Mussolini... is that right?

After 100 days of zero community transmission, we had six cases emanating from a storage facility in Auckland (where they handle frozen goods imported from the United States... plague central)

We stomped on that outbreak swiftly and efficiently.

The Mango Mussolini reputed that as "New Zealand, by the way, had a big outbreak, and other countries that were held up to try and make us look not - as good as we should look because we've done an incredible job - but they're having a lot of outbreaks.”

He mocked New Zealand's pandemic response, saying there had been a "big surge of the virus in New Zealand".

This was the situation on 20 August:

What’s your situation today?

NZ obviously but South Korea has done pretty well
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@Dlrannie They also listened to their scientists and took it seriously from the very beginning.
Dlrannie · 31-35, F
@QuixoticSoul They did indeed

@SW-User No. It's all China's fault! 😂
Didn’t it start in China?
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Spoiledbrat It did start in China.. And in a densely populated city.. And even with the head start of initial denial they STILL managed to stop it with less time and less resources, because they understand that an economy cant function in a pandemic and it needs to be stopped before the economy will successfully reboot. China is now back in positive growth because they acted. America and Europe are preparing to crash and burn because they wont bite the bullet and shut down properly until its done.😷
I thought it was because of all the riots and people about because we were shut and are still partially shut down in some areas. @whowasthatmaskedman
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Spoiledbrat People in China dont riot.. Well, only once.. Hong Kong is another matter. Now things are close to normal. Of course everyone is masked and I mean everyone..😷
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
They're not halfwits!

It's hopeless.
