If this is such a crises then why be opened at all. I think I’ve gone from one extreme to the other. Nobody knows anything for sure. The rules change daily.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@Keepitsimple This is because in the middle of a pandemic, idiot boy in America and his 'twin' in the UK thought they could disregard the virus and keep businesses going.

With the massive increases in infected numbers, (the so called 'Second wave') hospitals and health clinics are starting to be overrun so they need to add more measures.

But rather than do what they KNOW they need to do, they're persisting with this message that if we close pubs and take-aways by 10 that will in some mythical measure affect anything rather than shutting ANYWHERE where people gather (Bus stations; Train stations; High streets; Shopping centres....and so obviously kill business as a result)

Just another version of trying to have your cake, eat it, and say you're doing your best for the country while the numbers infected and dying increase.

I don’t think the medical professionals have any true answers and they have to base their decisions off of what they say. No matter who is in office they would get picked on. There’s no clear answers. We’re damned if we or don’t. @Picklebobble2
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@Keepitsimple Well there's some truth to that.
We know what happens with this virus because places like Africa see this all the time.
But it's never been monitored or dealt with because nowhere in Africa has the infrastructure we have and there's ALWAYS poverty in Africa and so folk do what they have to in order to try and survive.

There's only one way to deal with an outbreak of anything.
And that has nothing to do with 'Test and trace' or having a bloody phone app that tells you when to 'self isolate'.
You have to shut EVERYTHING down.
Restrict movement of ANY kind.
Confine everyone to 'house arrest' for a period because that's the ONLY way you can restrict the virus' movement.

But as the President said "Nothing stops business".
And while they pursue that line of thinking......

[c=#4C0073]in my country they enforced that ridiculous close at 10pm rule at first ..
then we fought back asking them to explain rationally how a virus becomes more risky after 10pm .. is it a f**king vampire? ..

now the closing time is 2 am 😂[/c]

Not much changes for me cept working at home again lol. I dont mind. I just wish I could see my parents often. Alas they're up north and under local lockdowns.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@Gangstress Yeah i haven't seen mine for six months. Most of them are near London so....
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
I support the new measures and some of them have been there all along. I think we are heading for a second lockdown.
SW-User
@Nyloncapes It makes perfect sense, fella. The night is still young at 10pm! That's when the fun starts and the social distancing starts breaking down! So sad as it is for an Irishman to say, I think these new measures are necessary.
Nyloncapes · 61-69, M
@SW-User this curfew will just mean pubs be more packed before 10, and doesn't this defeat the object of trying to stop the infections going up ,
SW-User
@Nyloncapes To a certain extent, yes. But then the UK government never knew what it was doing anyway.
SW-User
I actually thought 1 was the rule anyway.

I fail to see how 2 and 3 make the, slightest difference.

4 is what should have been brought in originally.

Well this'll make bugger all difference.

The virus is being spread predominantly inside people's homes. 🤷‍♂️
UK prime minister making another announcement that applies to England. And we’ve had to wear masks in Taxis for ages.
Military on the streets?Come on....This is really going down a slippery slope.Let’s keep the population scared.
And how the hell does closing an hour earlier stop the virus?
Making it up as they go along...
I predict the riots I’ve expecting all along...
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@TheSirfurryanimalWales Well, there's a lot going on that doesn't really make a lot of sense.

If there is a virulent strain of something going around, ordinarily you'd tell folk to stay home and not go out.
Watch the 'infected' numbers fall over a period of time and then sound the 'All clear'.

But so many of us work a rolling shift pattern. 24 hours a day. 7 days a week. 365 days a year. So nobody anywhere is ever going to be on the 'same page' at the 'same stage' as anybody else !

We don't shut businesses on a Sunday these days like we used to.
More of us WORK on a Sunday than ever before. So there's no 'respite' anywhere !
Add to that all the 'black economy' workers doing stuff that isn't monitored....
Nyloncapes · 61-69, M
@TheSirfurryanimalWales i think pub curfew you mentioned is a absolute joke, does the virus not come out till 10 then, people mixing in pubs and restaurants till 10 then close, I have not heard Boris or anyone give the reason why it is ok to mix till 10 then close , does not make any sense at all
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@Nyloncapes Ah well, this plays into my theory that from day 2 of this thing we've been treating it as an economic problem rather than a medical one.

Tell the public we're likely to hit recession or even depression unless..... and you'll get the majority to do what you need them to do.

Tell them it's imperative or they're likely to fall ill and die, and you'll likely see a panic.
Rioting.
Looting.
Businesses being targeted.
People perceived to be of African descent targeted....
Frank52 · 70-79, M
And he warned that we should expect this to last at least 6 months 🙁. This is on top of old people being cut off and dying away from everything and everyone they love, schools and universities trying to operate in bubbles, small children stopped from acting on their natural instincts to hug and touch. Apart from economics (which I don't minimise) I wonder if anyone is actually carrying out an inventory of long-term harms to help balance the needs of the moment to those of the future.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@Frank52 Very valid point ! I have six Grandchildren all between Nursery and year 2.
They've gone from full school to half-day school to school three days a week to no school !
And they've missed their school mates and all the social interactions more than we realize.
adorbz · 26-30, F
Do you think when cases start to decrease again they’ll reopen early again and we’ll be in a constant cycle 👀

@Picklebobble2 you can't ignore that the little bugger that is SARS-CoV-2 now exists and is prevalent across the globe. It can't and never will be put back into some cage. We do have to learn to live with it like, to a lesser extent, we've done so with hiv, SARS, Mers, ebola etc.

Problem is our modern way of living is good for SARS-CoV-2 and bad for stopping pandemics of infectious diseases.
Frank52 · 70-79, M
@Picklebobble2 I really want to dig deep into what people mean when they say we have to learn to live with it. What are we doing without FOREVER and what needs to be slightly adjusted? I've written elsewhere, that there's no way I'm learning to live without natural human interaction, singing, crowds and expressions of love.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@SW-User But by not suggesting we should do everything possible in an attempt to fight it means that those who 'let the Genie out of the bottle' eg: Trump and his flat refusal to stop planes from the KNOWN SEAT of the infection area from flying into the U.S and it's passengers beyond, you're effectively sanctioning mass murder of your OWN citizens for the sake of a $.
SW-User
I don't go to pubs, restaurants or takeaways. I work from home already. Wmy wife and son work in retail and already wear à mask. No change for me.
Miram · 31-35, F
Not enough at this point.
LadyJ · F
Boris is a joke 🙄
ikitclaw · 41-45, M
Ok so not really anything

It'll change in a week anyway
