Should Ireland leave the EU and join the UK?

Of course it shouldn't and it's a ridiculous question but that is what an Irish Minister was asked by the BBC. 🤦‍♀️

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/jan/26/john-humphrys-suggests-ireland-could-quit-eu-and-join-uk

Its about the Irish border question and anchor John Humpreys thought a 'creative' solution would be if EIRE left EU regulations and became sub-servient to British ones.

Britain can't mandate another country to leave the EU, not least one which fought a war of independence againts our armies a hundred years ago.

92% of Irish people told a poll that they want to stay part of the EU. probably about 0,001% of Irish people have any desire to re-join Brexit Britain.

Sure, the Brits have been so wonderful to the Irish after all...

@SW-User Atrocious lot of arrogant twats.
SW-User
Are they still? I’ve never been there, but brushed up on my Irish history recently and was shocked!@cuppatea
Graylight · 51-55, F
No. Ireland doesn't need to be part of the UK any more than it already is.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Graylight Of course. I'm embarrassed the BBC even asked.
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
Jeezus H Christ ! ..... wtf was Humphreys thinking ? You really couldn't have a better example of just why everyone thinks the British are an arrogant lot.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@RodionRomanovitch Have to agree.
PrivatePeeks · 26-30, F
Never. I'm from Cork.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@SW-User No, I'm American through and through. It's a fsmily heritage thing.

This is never going to happen. A united Ireland in the EU is more likely, and would nicely solve the backstop problem.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@SW-User Indeed. Personally I think it's more likely to happen in the near future than Scottish indie. Well done DUP
SW-User
@Burnley123 I think it's still some way off, but there is a nice irony in the reults of DUP self interest.
EmeraldOdinelle · 22-25, F
No Northern Ireland should stay in the eu
EmeraldOdinelle · 22-25, F
@Burnley123 I agree
TheThinker · 56-60, M
@EmeraldOdinelle Especially as a majority of the N.I. population voted to Remain. Probably precisely because they realised the implications on the border of them leaving.

You have to wonder if things would be different if Theresa May wasn't reliant on the DUP's votes to stay in power...
cuppatea · 31-35, F
@EmeraldOdinelle

Sinn Féin used this opportunity to call for a Northern Ireland referendum on a united Ireland?

Sound like a good idea to me.
cuppatea · 31-35, F
I have a simple solution.

The people who want to leave the EU and stay with England should move to England.

What's the problem?
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@cuppatea Well yeah but it needs stating cos so many still believe in Brexit.
cuppatea · 31-35, F
@Burnley123

When are people in "Great" Britain going to learn to live with the consequences of their actions?

They voted to leave. Leave.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@cuppatea A narrow majority voted to leave and I wasn't one of them. I have to deal with the consequences of other people's actions.

whatever will keep things happy prosperous and stable, so people more in know..would know.

i don't especially believe in breakups or forced marriages.
thatscottishguy · 26-30, M
😂😂😂 Not surprised but still amazed at the stupidity and ignorance by some.
Platinum · M
They are too committed and there is no reason why they should ....the border can easily be protected electronically and it don't need the backstop...they are making it a much bigger obsticle than it has to be...even Barnier said so this week...
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Platinum A hard border means time consuming checks and possibly tariffs. It would be a disaster for their economy and the economy of NI
Platinum · M
I never said a hard border...@Burnley123
St0ut · 51-55, M
The English have been for Ireland joining the uk for centuries lol.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@St0ut Not really. Even British Conservatives stopped caring decades ago and there is some doubt as to whether they even care about Northern Ireland.

However, this question does smack of post-imperial arrogance and that is big part of Brexit.

GunSmoke9 · 56-60, M
@RodionRomanovitch I answered a question. Does that bother you?
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
@GunSmoke9 The answer doesn't bother me , I just marvel at the sheer stupidity of it.
GunSmoke9 · 56-60, M
@RodionRomanovitch Your opinion of my answer means nothing. If you think they should stay in the EU fine, I don't.
Deadcutie · 18-21, F
I have no skin in the game or care
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Deadcutie OK, thanks for commenting anyway though.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
An occupation for 800 years is more than enough, the Irish do the need a continuation of it.
