What happened to the Republican Party?

Who else wishes Barack Obama was still president so that he could give John McCain the kind of respectful, bipartisan, sincere, heartfelt send-off that a warrior of his stature deserves. Is trump even invited to attend McCain's funeral?

Check out the conspiracy theories on this thread. This is current representation of the Republican Party - anti-intellectualism and disrespect for facts. And they don't get any crazier than this one...

@hippyjoe1955

Barbara Boxer was stock broker before she ran for Congress. She and her husband sold a few houses over time. In California, do that a few times, along with earning high salaries and it's not that difficult to build $6 million in wealth over a lifetime.

Maybe not in Churchill.

But in California? Yes.

@NoFuxGiven truth bothering you Libtard?

President Obama is actually delivering the eulogy. President Trump has been politely asked not to attend.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@nedkelly And you base that on? Oh yeah. Bullsh*t.
nedkelly · 61-69, M
@Graylight If it was on bullshit you would have a master degree and denial
Graylight · 51-55, F
@nedkelly Hee-larious. I provide sources and citations. I've seen your posts. You provide the judgmental opinion of a non-US citizen who cannot possible know the intricacies of our political system.
woolenmittens · 31-35, F
Barack Obama and George Bush will be giving John McCain his eulogy. This is what democracy looks like. This is what makes America Great.

Not infantile twittertantrums.

@woolenmittens 👏👏
I do—and in fact McCain requested Barack Obama and George W. Bush eulogize him. That’s the way it should be, beyond partisan bickering. That’s what true loyalty to one’s country means. Trump and his ilk don’t even know what the word “loyalty” means.
ronisme1 · 61-69, M

Their intrinsic corruption and malevolence found its perfect form in Donald J Trump.

They stopped aspiring to be the conservative half of a balanced two-party system and fully embraced the worst post-democracy, right wing radicalism simmering in their base. They fully deserve the place they have booked for themselves in the ash heap of history.

Here’s a glimpse of the difference with Republicans/conservative thinking, in general.

I am certainly one who wishes Obama was President to have offered sentiments appropriate of a world leader.

The good news is (as I understand it), John McCain requested Obama and George Bush to offer eulogy at his services. And what already has been spoken in public today by our current and formerly elected officials shows respect, civility and dignity, with the exception of one abbreviated and sterile statement as offered by President Trump.
NoFuxGiven · 22-25, F
@bonviveur Thank you, friend.

RIP McCain, you fought a good fight. Even your adversaries have the utmost respect.

I'm pretty much over it all. Politics is exasperating.

@GeistInTheMachine I get that. A helpful hint: stay away from the Politics section. 😉

It would be an insult to McCain and his family if the coward in chief attended the funeral.
LegendofPeza · 61-69, M
@room101 They've already made it clear he's not welcome.

@LegendofPeza Good for them 👏👏👏

I wouldn't say the family would want him there
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
So you don't remember when McCain was loved by the republicans and reviled by the democats? He was a war monger and the dems hated him. Then he took a bribe and threw the election to Obama and now the dems love him. Funny that.
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@LegendofPeza You choose to turn a blind eye to the corruption in high places. I don't. That is not a conspiracy at all. Those are simple facts. The number of elected officials that become very rich from being elected indicates that there is massive corruption taking place.
room101 · 51-55, M
@hippyjoe1955 Senator John McCain published SEVEN books and numerous articles. Of course, in your deluded little world, the revenues he received from his publications were all bribes.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@hippyjoe1955 No one pretends McCain was above rebuke. Not even McCain himself. And no, Dems often disagreed with him. But he had what many others lacked, and that was a vision for the greater good regardless of party.

As for becoming rich by being a politician, look no further than the WH. Or can you see the far from under your rock?
chuck7882 · 61-69, M
My guess would be Vice President Pence will be there

nedkelly · 61-69, M
Why does it matter if Trump attends, did you ever think they may have a very private family funeral
woolenmittens · 31-35, F
@nedkelly

Senator John McCain will lie in state at the Arizona Capitol. He will also lie in state in the Capitol Rotunda and receive a full dress funeral service at the Washington National Cathedral before his burial in Annapolis, Md.

Why in the world would you think he would have a private funeral.
nedkelly · 61-69, M
@woolenmittens Any person can have a private funeral, they can have a memorial service later
room101 · 51-55, M
@woolenmittens He thinks that it would be a private funeral because he knows that his orange overlord will not be welcome.

I'm actually kind of confused of the hero-worship for McCain from liberals. His death is sad but his politics were genuinely horrific. Splitting with the GOP on Trump and torture, and showing some basic human decency to opponents doesn't make up for the rest of his entire political career.
@CountScrofula Many of us are comparing him to the hardliners who seem to make up the majority of the GOP nowadays. I always give the disclaimer that I didn’t agree with him politically. There really was a time when one could disagree and still respect the person.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@bijouxbroussard You hit the nail on the head. I never liked his politics, but I never believed for a minute that he wasn't an honorable man. Look at how be answered the woman in the 2008 debates who called Obama an Arab. He called her out on it. Now consider how the same question would be answered by the current president. Enough said.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@windinhishair @bijouxbroussard Sure but showing basic human civility sometimes is a low bar.

I'm happy that people are trying hard to show civility and decency with his death because we shouldn't cheerlead the deaths of political opponents (like a lot of the Trump supporters are doing with him). But I'm cautious about him being lionized. A close look at his behaviour - both personal and political - reveals someone I'm not too enamored with.
OldHippie · 61-69, M
After watching the way fellow Americans go at it on here maybe the concept in some reports i've read that there may be a second civil war isn't so whacky.
SW-User
@OldHippie Just as the Russians have been planning for decades.
Odette · 31-35, F
John McCain died a hero, not only for his lifetime of serving our country - but for his refusal to compromise his beliefs for a fucking traitor just because his party elected him.
TexChik · F
@Odette amazing how the libs are rallying around McCain ... they wouldn’t spit any other republican... and never said a word when a psycho nut job Libtard shot up republicans at a baseball practice. But McCain ... ? Fawning all over him , and not once was his war record (aiding the enemy) ever brought up when he ran for President. That was very telling .
NoFuxGiven · 22-25, F
@TexChik Hey, quick question. What the fuck?

No, the orange troll isn't invited to the funeral .
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
McCain hated Trump and did everything he could to destroy him prior to the election and afterward. McCain was a very small petty man who thought only of himself. He did not want POTUS Trump at his funeral. That speaks more about McCain than it does about Trump. Small petty vain petulant childish.
room101 · 51-55, M
@hippyjoe1955 So because he didn't want a corrupt, coward (your orange moron avoided the draft FIVE times) representing his party, that makes him small and petty?

What a twat!

@hippyjoe1955 Delusion about who?

The wealthy owners of the press get egg all over their face and spend 2 years fantasizing about a Russian infiltration is fantasy?

Hillary loses, even with top officials covering up her felonies and she gripes endlessly how she didn't get a fair shake from the press like the way Obama was raised to godlike status is a fantasy?

Those spoiled cunning little thieves we call senators all pissed off because Trump didn't put time in as a Senator is fantasy?

Every last one of them, including that AG giving his speech fucks around paying off blackmailers trying to kill their career, influence elections if they won't pay, and the press and the courts claim that the victims lawyer, in this case, a presidents lawyer, was influencing and the blackmailer was the victim.

No shit? How about that?
ronisme1 · 61-69, M

Although I'd grant five stars to this vintage a few with inoperative or poorly working brains might still not realize how terribly Barry messed up global peace in favor of the Wall Street hawks.

Good point though. Lol

John the warrior already said : "I don't want no stinking presidrnt Donald at my funeral" so the great McCain is being honored as he asked.

Gosh dammit some aren't happy no matter what they git.

Lucky escape I'd say. Guy must have been a moron.
