@KellyLancaster Im East End born & bred. You can't get more multi cultural than that I embrace diversity. On 2 occasions walking past somebody, I've been told to dress myself. Each occasion by Muslim men, it's happened to several girls at work. I swear next time, I'll lift my top!!
No lady in a burqa has ever hurt me. Men in suits should be banned though. Men in suits brought about my fathers banckrupcy. Men in suits run corrupt organizations. Men in suits do all kinds of atrocious behaviors in society. No one bans suits.
#1 Lots if religions have dress restrictions. Hasidic and Orthodox Jews, Amish, even some evangelical Christians. This gets singled out because it’s more foreign to people
#2 Freedom means the freedom to choose. My doctor where’s a hijab. Tel me she’s oppressed. She’s an educated professional who makes an excellent living. She chooses to follow her faith a certain way, it’s not imposed on her. I think she’s pretty awesome.
People who support banning the burqa really don't give a shit about womens' rights since this is the removal of a right, they give a shit about women conforming to their standards.
Now we are takin about the full body covering right? Because people cdon’t fuse the Burqa with the Hajib. I don’t mind the Burqa but it is mildly unsettling because with anyone I would at least like to see a bit of them.
I think we should compromise. Make Tuesday burqa day and everyone wears one, then make Saturday naked day and nobody wears anything. It's all about balance..
@AgapeLove I hear you, but I maintain that many women still wear a burqa out of pure choice. Many can't understand why Catholics would flagellate themselves or wear scapulae every day all their lives upon penalty of sin, but some do because they choose it. I think what we'd all agree on is that is should be a choice and not a requirement for women.
Muslim women in the US, like people of any religious group, are guaranteed the right to practice their religion, and it's considered a religious practice in Islam to wear the Burqa. They can't be forced to remove it simply because it makes people uncomfortable.
As long as you show your full face then do whatever you please. Its like walking around with a ski mask on ...bound to make people uncomfortable and say hmmmmm...IF its that bothersome...you dont have to stay here in USA...go elsewhere and thats okay too :-)
The burka should be banned! Anyone can wear a burka and go and do what they want including travelling anywhere. So yes for security reasons it should be banned! (I live in the uk)
@popmol Great. Let's spend the unofficial American male uniform of t-shirts, ball caps and cargo shorts. We'd be doing a far greater favor to the world.
