Immigration improves the economy and adds to the GDP, particularly in countries like the US or Canada. There are a lot of other complicated reasons you may want immigrants, but that's the #1 reason.

Immigration is actually good for growth and economy. Accepting refugees is compassionate and also good for growth and economy. Even the unregistered immigrants contribute to the economy. Perhaps they don't pay income taxes, but every time they make a purchase, they pay sales taxes.

@Picklebobble2 as einstock pointed out, they don't just allow ghettos, they created them in the first place.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@Serenitree that was my point.
Serenitree · F
@Picklebobble2 Sorry, I misunderstood.
Fernie · F
people don't come here just because of poverty...many are fleeing for their lives. If YOU were in a situation where your life was in danger every second...you too would immigrate to a safer place
bijouxbroussard · F
People emigrate for more opportunities to improve their lives.
bijouxbroussard · F
@Einstok And apparently with the people who were needing to come. The fact of people needing asylum hasn’t changed.
Einstok · 36-40, M
@bijouxbroussard Fair enough. However you are only focusing on the inflow and not the regulatory infrastructure to why we allow people to come in the first place.
bijouxbroussard · F
@Einstok That’s why I said that it depends on the country. I mean, with ours people just showed up and as long as they were from Europe there was no problem. Immigrants from other parts of the world have prompted exclusion acts and restrictions.

If your country has high unemployment, why bring in immigrants, get the unemployed to fill them job vacancies
bijouxbroussard · F
@Einstok Of course. Other countries invest in their citizens by providing an education that qualifies then to compete in their own countries—and in ours.
Serenitree · F
@Nyloncapes That's a good plan. Hopefully, if it works over there, some bright person here, will attempt to make it work here too. I had no post secondary education, and was never unemployed except by choice, when I stayed home to care for my preschoolers. When I wanted to work, I worked, because I wasn't too proud to do anything I was physically and intellectually capable of doing.
Nyloncapes · 61-69, M
Serenitree, we have now got the lowest unemployment for decades here now, I have never been unemployed only when I got made redundant ,and when I became a carerfor my mum till she died. Yes I don't know how some people do not want to work but as I say that is all changing here now,
Nyloncapes · 61-69, M
Bijoux you are so right, when I was young you had nearly all apprenticeship when you started work and learnt a trade, the government waste billions on stupid schemes for the unemployed over her in the UK, if they invested that money in what you suggest , would benefit country in the long run

to take the work opportunities from the locals
Serenitree · F
@Einstok To be honest, I saw nothing indicating anything about white people or people of any colour or nationality. Just immigrants vs locals, any of which could be any colour.
Serenitree · F
@Einstok actually, she didn't say anything but
to take jobs from locals.
Where are you finding the reference to white people?
IAMMONARAHIMI · 36-40, F
I don't think they are poor, they need to spend at least 50k to get sponsored, and majority of them are highly educated
Einstok · 36-40, M
@IAMMONARAHIMI Legal immigrants generally are.
IAMMONARAHIMI · 36-40, F
@Einstok no they aren't, legal immigrants majority have money, and a university PHD's, then they migrate and become cleaners or taxi drivers
Einstok · 36-40, M
@IAMMONARAHIMI I was saying legal immigrants generally are educated. My fault, I should have communicated that better.
