What is the purpose of immigration?

Is it for skills that don't exist in our economy? Is it to provide shelter to the world's poor?

Immigration is actually good for growth and economy. Accepting refugees is compassionate and also good for growth and economy. Even the unregistered immigrants contribute to the economy. Perhaps they don't pay income taxes, but every time they make a purchase, they pay sales taxes.

@Serenitree Indeed. On unregistered immigrants, though depending on their contribution, their cost could outweigh their value to the economy. Refugees can be a help for the economy, but they can also be a drain if they don't have the skills to compete in the economy.

@Einstok How are they a drain ?
if they're unregistered they aren't taking a job that most reputable employers would hire for are they ?
They don't come for medical care or drugs on prescription.
If they're illegal they can't claim any form of benefit.....

@Picklebobble2 It isn't them directly. It is through their children. Unregistered immigrants can utilize state and local systems. Taxpayers still provide spots in schools and in-state tuition for children who came to this country illegally. How much they receive depends on the state and local benefits available.

Undocumented immigrants work in all sectors of the economy. Some use fake Social Security numbers. Others work for employers that don't care. It isn't like the law is actually enforced.

@Einstok So you have to ask yourself why ?
Why is the U.S. border so poorly guarded......everywhere ?
Why does the U.S. allow so many ghetto areas within it's states ?
Why does a sizable proportion of the U.S. economy actually rely on these folk picking your fruit and veg; cleaning motel rooms; etc ?

Biggest bullshit argument ever U.S illegal immigration.
Hotels; farms; security; cleaners; childcare....without illegals you'd never get any of it.

@Picklebobble2 The US border is poorly guarded for two reasons. 1) It creates a political opportunity for both Democrats and Republicans. 2) It allows the flow of cheap labor for the economy.

The US doesn't allow Ghettos. The US created ghettos with redlining, white-flight and the concentration of poverty. Poor areas tend to be more violent and crime ridden. Gentrification can solve it, but creates other social problems.

Many parts of the economy rely on illegal labor. Consumers in the US demand cheap goods and services. Illegal immigration also suppresses wages. In many places, welfare pays more than the wage in these positions.

As I have said before, illegal aliens work in a number of industries. My father works a blue collar job and many of the people he works with are illegal immigrants. They are not all in low wage positions. It is simply that the company can't rely on the American workforce.

@Picklebobble2 Yes. They are purposely created.

@Picklebobble2 as einstock pointed out, they don't just allow ghettos, they created them in the first place.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@Serenitree that was my point.

@Picklebobble2 Sorry, I misunderstood.
