Can't sleep because I may be laid off tomorrow, it just hit me 😪

My company is doing mass layoffs, and my dept signed a 2 or 3 year contract with the state. I also read that this 3rd round of layoffs was supposed to be for a different office.

But then I started putting a few things together:

- Reddit reports that some are being laid off ON their talent discussion day.
- My talent discussion day is Wednesday.
- My 1x1 with my supervisor is on that day as well.
- The day she told us a big spreadsheet is due: You guessed it, Wednesday.
- However, my coworker and I were both added to a mysterious group chat that was called "State of ____".
- Multiple people in the chat started asking why they were added to it, and no one answered. Two people said they were "on the bench" waiting for a job opening, and if there was a job oppprtunity, to please allow them to interview. No response.
- A different person, seeing this, created another group chat to the creators of the chat, telling them that he IMPLORES them to get the guest list right, and to check with HR who should be in the chat before adding them.
- My coworker did some research and found that the creator of the chat is in HR and that mass layoffs are due on the 8th.
- A prominent supervisor, who has been with the company 10 odd years and who knows someone ranked like THIRD in this global company..who managed an entire department once..who came back to the call center to help out and was given a massive team of 50..who bent over BACKWARDS for management..was just let go yesterday, as well as two really good agents.
- Pride comes before a fall, and I just made that post about being done paying off my house in "5 years max".
- Last piece of evidence: It is the holidays..of COURSE my corporation would lay us off right before Christmas and when we have mortgages and families and inflation and tons of bills and no degree.

😪😪😪

I just got a call on my work phone from an external number. That NEVER happens. When I googled the number, a "management consulting manager" with my company came up. I am still on a different Teams call, so I messaged this woman. No response. She is now in busy status and my boss is in presenting status. They appear to be on a call together :(
@foldedunfolding Perfect. Thank you for letting us know. ♥️

@Ducky @Sojournersoul ikr..thank you so much for waiting with baited breath with me!!!
@foldedunfolding I really was. Kept checking.

I'm praying you don't lose your job. You're intelligent so hopefully you don't.. but if you do, you're smart enough to get another good job. Unlike me, I'm just a doofus.🤪
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@Matt85 thank you hun..im so scared
Matt85 · 36-40, M
Oh no…🥺

I hope you’re in a scheduled meeting for the group that will be staying instead of being let go…IDK why but I’m picturing those groups of kids waiting in the holding rooms on American Idol😓

But you’re right…there’s definitely something fishy going on. What would be incredible is if your supervisor got let go and then you stayed. I’ll be praying for that to happen🙏🏼
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@Haniazed oh man yes..tysm friend. see my update above.
@foldedunfolding Oh good…at least you can sleep tonight😅
Viper · M
Yeah, all that sounds horrible!

That being said, they do like to talk with those that survived the mass layoffs as well, and apologize and give a rallying speech, etc etc.

So if you know whom your best or worst performers are, I would be checking to see where they are.

If the best performers are in the group, then I would worry less.

And signing a 2 or 3 year deal with the state should be helpful.
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@Viper thanks yes, best performers are in the group!
Viper · M
@foldedunfolding that should be a good sign. Your department signed a multi-year deal with the state, so they can't fire the whole department.

They'll keep the best preformers. So I don't think that meeting is about you guys getting fired, unless they're shutting the entire location down.

That being said, that's not to say there isn't a different meeting.

But that's just my best guess. Something companies do weird or stupid things.

If you have a good relationship with your supervisor, and they're willing to talk one on one, I might reach out and tell them, I'm freaking out a bit here, do you know anything? Even if it's bad news, it's better that I know the bad news, then over worrying about it.

Of course, that's assuming they know, assuming they're willing to talk and share with you, and assuming they like you and trust you to keep your mouth shut from your co-workers.

I hope you don’t get laid off but apply to other companies. I’m sure you will be considered a great asset for them with your experience and skill set. Good luck 🍀

@foldedunfolding What a jerk boss. You deserve better and I’m sure you’ll be fine. 🌸🌸🌸
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@SW-User thanks babe..she was not listening to a word i said in this morning's meeting..i had to legit repeat myself on nearly every point bc she was paying no attention. now she is having me call on these 42 claims that only total 6k..when i could be working easy win 198 claims totaling 217k. plus i have already CALLED this one carrier 3x and they told us we have to send them a spreadsheet to fulfill..but she is making me call again. like, she is either a) messing with me, or b) truly this incompetent.

@foldedunfolding I’m sorry, she seems like a bich. Ugh
Ontheroad · M
Deep breath dear, deep breath. You cannot at this point change what will be, just prepare for whatever it might be and try to get some peace.

Besides, you are too delightful to lay off. 😁
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@Ontheroad aww ty..we give our life blood and health to these people. coworkers have had cardiac events, man 😪
deadgerbil · 26-30, M
It's amazing how these companies always seem to time these mass layoffs like right before the holidays
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@deadgerbil yeah exactly, and somehow "run out of money" every year at that time
Scribbles · 36-40, F
I'd have a sleepless night worrying too. I hope it goes ok. If they do lay you off, then they are losing another good worker. It'll sting. But You'll find another job. Tru to make sure to network that last day and secure some sort of recommendation. Hang in there.
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@Scribbles thank you hun..im so scared
Scribbles · 36-40, F
@foldedunfolding I just saw your update! Hooray that's good news. You can go to bed and sleep tonight!

foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@Sojournersoul thank you love ♡
@foldedunfolding you are welcome. 🥰🥰
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@Sojournersoul she just spent like 20 mins telling us how the client is finally starting to understand why we have ups and downs with claims..and that they are excited about the initiatives we have coming down the pipeline..so im like..if she knew we were going to be laid off, im not sure she would do that??
Strongtea · 22-25, M
I hope you’re ok!? I’m sure it will all work out fine.
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@Strongtea please pray for me..im so scared..i have given 8 years of my life to this company
Strongtea · 22-25, M
I will. Honestly you’ll be ok whatever happens. @foldedunfolding
Teslin · M

Best wishes, hope it works out. I went through that twice, it's a rotten feeling. As well as being scary for how to live. Best wishes.
@foldedunfolding I don’t think so either. I know it will be a long day and night for you
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
Good luck today!

I’m sorry I hope they leave you alone! 🤞

Most companies are about the bottom line only and not their employees’ well being.
Yeah, Corps do the layoffs before EOY so they can take the expense. I personally think it is a stupid game. If your number is drawn, hopefully you get a decent severance package. Given budgeting should be done, will hopefully see jobs avail early next year.

I've been there, and if it happens, I can send you something I wrote when my number came up surviving the emotional roller coaster. I never published it because I wanted it to be anonymous. It isn't much, but I look back and still find it insightful.

Hopefully, you'll survive.
metaldog · 51-55, F
those early morning dot-joinings are the worst
Damn that’s rough! Hope you fly through and make the cuts.

Soooo many people are quietly being laid off all over!
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@Teggy i know..so many BIG companies going with AI over human capital
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
I really hope you make it through the cut. You’re a top performer so I really hope that helps.
MethDozer · M
Talent discussion day?

Is that like that horseshit where you basically reapply for your job?
MethDozer · M
@foldedunfolding of course they did.

There really should be a law capping how much a CEO can make in relation to their employees wage.
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@MethDozer that would require our lawmakers to hop out of bed with corporate interests
MethDozer · M
@foldedunfolding Well for that to happen the common worker would need to be deprogrammed from always voting and siding against their and their own class's best interests instead of that of some of rich fuck who sees yo up as a (((human resource))) or in simpler terms, livestock.
