Can't sleep because I may be laid off tomorrow, it just hit me 😪

My company is doing mass layoffs, and my dept signed a 2 or 3 year contract with the state. I also read that this 3rd round of layoffs was supposed to be for a different office.

But then I started putting a few things together:

- Reddit reports that some are being laid off ON their talent discussion day.
- My talent discussion day is Wednesday.
- My 1x1 with my supervisor is on that day as well.
- The day she told us a big spreadsheet is due: You guessed it, Wednesday.
- However, my coworker and I were both added to a mysterious group chat that was called "State of ____".
- Multiple people in the chat started asking why they were added to it, and no one answered. Two people said they were "on the bench" waiting for a job opening, and if there was a job oppprtunity, to please allow them to interview. No response.
- A different person, seeing this, created another group chat to the creators of the chat, telling them that he IMPLORES them to get the guest list right, and to check with HR who should be in the chat before adding them.
- My coworker did some research and found that the creator of the chat is in HR and that mass layoffs are due on the 8th.
- A prominent supervisor, who has been with the company 10 odd years and who knows someone ranked like THIRD in this global company..who managed an entire department once..who came back to the call center to help out and was given a massive team of 50..who bent over BACKWARDS for management..was just let go yesterday, as well as two really good agents.
- Pride comes before a fall, and I just made that post about being done paying off my house in "5 years max".
- Last piece of evidence: It is the holidays..of COURSE my corporation would lay us off right before Christmas and when we have mortgages and families and inflation and tons of bills and no degree.

😪😪😪

Yeah, all that sounds horrible!

That being said, they do like to talk with those that survived the mass layoffs as well, and apologize and give a rallying speech, etc etc.

So if you know whom your best or worst performers are, I would be checking to see where they are.

If the best performers are in the group, then I would worry less.

And signing a 2 or 3 year deal with the state should be helpful.

@Viper thanks yes, best performers are in the group!

@foldedunfolding that should be a good sign. Your department signed a multi-year deal with the state, so they can't fire the whole department.

They'll keep the best preformers. So I don't think that meeting is about you guys getting fired, unless they're shutting the entire location down.

That being said, that's not to say there isn't a different meeting.

But that's just my best guess. Something companies do weird or stupid things.

If you have a good relationship with your supervisor, and they're willing to talk one on one, I might reach out and tell them, I'm freaking out a bit here, do you know anything? Even if it's bad news, it's better that I know the bad news, then over worrying about it.

Of course, that's assuming they know, assuming they're willing to talk and share with you, and assuming they like you and trust you to keep your mouth shut from your co-workers.
