Old computer is having same problem
I’m still running with windows 10

zonavar68 · 56-60, M
There are specific system requirements that Win 11 requires, otherwise it will not let you install and run Win 11.

TPM 2.0 is the main one. Another key one is you *must* have a Microsoft account to be able to authenticate the key. I run Win 10 Pro on my CF-31 without a MS account as I do not want MS having access to a trail of data about my system.

MS is attempting to close all loopholes that might allow installing/running Win 11 on unsupported hardware.

I'll be using Win 10 well past the use-by date I think and probably look to switch to Linux. I still have an older system that runs Win XP and it stopped getting support in 2014.

There are hacks to force a non-compliant win10 box to install win11, which Ive done, but it runs very slow. You're better off getting a new computer. You'll be much happier in the end.
I can do you a favour by telling you: don't do it! when I got a new laptop last year it made me wish I'd asked for a Mac! You might want to hold out for Win12, but you'd probably still have the compatibility problem

I think you need a new computer. I have this problem with my work computer.
Bowenw · 61-69, M
It depends on the brand of computer. Microsoft has a free compatibility checker that should tell you what exactly is not compatible, then you can search to see if it’s something that can be addressed.

I can help with that...send me a DM and I will explain how to do it.

It has to support TPM (Trusted Pilot Module) 2.0. That's the big thing. This is hardware based security. Older systems will have an older version of it that isn't supported. You can buy the hardware piece, but it it's a crapshoot if the system BIOS will support it. They also seem a bit sketchy.

Yep.... You have three choices... Do nothing and continue with win 10 and pussy a lot, buy a new computer or switch over to Linux.... The latter option won't cost you anything and comes with a very capable office suite which will open and use ms file types... Highly recommended ;)

try local library

Use Linux

Some popular Linux distributions that resemble Windows include Zorin OS, Linux Mint, and Linux Lite. These distros offer familiar user interfaces and features that make transitioning from Windows easier.
DragonFruit · 70-79, M
If you want to upgrade to the next system of that type, you'll need to get a new computer.
NanciA · 46-50, F
