Im not super tech savy

A few years ago i got a new ssd and merged it with an hdd to extend the drive space. Does it make it slower overall because of the hard drive? Iv been having lag issues.

I don't know much about tech at all. But I have heard that can happen. That is why I didn't change the internal storge on my steam deck.

You might want yo put the OS on the fastrr SSD and use the older HDD for storage

@alisonjayne thats what im doing. But im wondering if merging a seperate ssd with an hdd makes it only run as fast as the hdd because ita a slower component
I legit have no idea what ane of that means im sorry id help if i could

External hard drive is the way to go

It can. The hard drive should be used for storage mostly. Especially for stuff you don't need regular access to like photos, music and media.
The main operating system and your most accessed stuff should be on the SSD so it can take advantage of the increased speed.
But it sounds like your setup is actually the other way around.
If you were running your computer on an HDD and then later added an SSD the SSD will just be extra storage but your operating system and programs will still be on the HDD.
The HDD in this case is most likely acting as a bottleneck and slowing the system.

@Renaci this answers my question mostly
